That is typical and I think it what is mentally built in our minds like another saying, "Hear nothing, say nothing and do nothing!" To this point I tend to say no, "Hear what people say, say something inspirational that will change their perception of Government authorities or private businesses and tell them you'll send your message out there, for them. Theses authorities may not want to respond immediately, they may not respond to me directly, but they will do some action, especially if it is to get the right result for the community. Then we will see it, be happy as everyone should be and know that this process, however simple it is, works!
So, coming to the reason why I have made the above statement, is because of a lady that has a grandson and partner living as well as other families living with her in a NSW Housing rented 3 bedroom house, is so shocked about the queues of people trying to get assistance from the NSW Government in relation to being granted this low cost housing for the needy.
I have known this lady for about 10 - 12 years. She has lived in Whalan and I will present the issue to you, with a solution. This issue that she has raised is amazing coming from a NSW Housing tenant.
In these times of hardship some community members living 'on the streets' may find it hard to be moved 'off the streets' as the queues for applying and waiting for NSW Housing rental properties is getting longer and longer. Some individual NSW Housing Tenants are living in 3-4 bedroom houses - when families of 3 or more could be living in there!
I personally know, of 2 such people living like this and the Lady from Whalan knows of at least 3 to 4 families in Whalan and Hebersham that are living like this. She also claims one of these people live in a 4 bedroom house by themselves.
These tenants have lifestyle changes that occur after their application is accepted and grant a NSW Housing house and they can be for various reasons; due to child custody, separation, divorced or loss of close family members.
I do not know if this happens, but there should a review of NSW Housing Tenants occupancy rate on a regular basis, which would determine and establish the amount of tenants to occupy each amount of bedroom supplied per house. This means that that quantified tenants are qualified.
Simply the right amount of people living in a 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom and 3 bedrooms or proper. Normally a one bedroom house/unit could suit 1-2 people, 2 bedroom house could suit 3-4 people and 3 bedroom house could suit 5-6. This facilitates a proper standard of placing people into the right amount of bedroom homes!
The review that has been suggested, will pick up loss of any tenants/occupant in any household over a period of time, allowing for movements to a lesser amount of bedroom house to accommodate for other people that need the suitable and appropriate amount of bedrooms, to live. Thus, the correct and adequate housing will have to be made available, before moving tenants, within their own locality, using this suggestion. It will mean movements but this would be within longer periods of based based on personal lifestyle and living.
Let's imagine that there are 100 owned NSW Housing with 3 bedrooms, within the area of Mount Druitt suburbs. There could be 30% of families with 5-6 members living at the property, 20% of families with 3-4 families living at property, 20% of families with 2 families living at property with a balance of 30% with 1 person living at property.
If we look at this scenario, where 20% of families with 2 people could have the maximum of 6 in a 3 bedroom house. Here is the difference:
- 20% of 100 is 20 people
- 20 people multiplied by 2 people (occupants) is 40
- 6 (maximum) multiplied by 40 people is 240 people
So the idea of this is even though 40 people live in these properties, a total of 240 people could be living in these properties, instead. Would you believe that will reduce the waiting queue for NSW Housing and as we know that NSW Housing could own hundreds of properties within Mount Druitt, the figure of more people entering into properties could well be over 2-3,000 as an estimate. The people living 'On the streets' will be 'Off the streets'!
So now that was easy in some way to explain, let's get the stake holders talking about it and read the tables of NSW government. The NSW Member for Mount Druitt, Edmond Atalla, could be holding his head high in NSW Parliament if raises this suggestion.
I must 'Thank' the lady for raising this NSW Housing that is happening around Mount Druitt. She will be pleased, she is now heard, once I mention this post to her!
