Clemente Australia - Open Day - Free University Course; Information and Application!

I have received a further email from Dianelle Dias from St Vinnies/Clemente Australia offering a free study course open to the community, with an open day coming up. There is not many course that is offered for free and you get a University qualification.

Here it is:

I am very excited to share information about our upcoming Clemente semester and want to get this information to as many people as possible, so people can take advantage for this amazing opportunity.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could share this information with your networks.

The next Clemente semester will be commencing in early August 2016 and the students will be learning about “Australian Indigenous People Past and Present”.

There are some criteria the students need to meet:
·         18yrs old or over
·         A permanent resident of Australia
·         Ability to read a newspaper
·         Stability in their lives
·         Willingness to learn/study

Some info for people who do not know about this program –

St Vincent de Paul Society (NSW) Western Sydney, and the Institute of Advancing Community Engagement (IACE) at the Australian Catholic University (ACU) are working together to create opportunities to help people make a fresh start through university education.

The Clemente Program offers at no cost, supported, tertiary level education in the humanities for people experiencing disadvantage.

The Clemente Program is a proven success, having run internationally for over a decade.  Clemente imparts a sense of empowerment to get back on track in other aspects of life.

The course comproises a 13 week unit of study per semester.  The unit is a first year humanities subject with university standard assessments. Participation is the key goal.

Successful completion of the four units qualifies students for a non-award Certificate in Liberal Studies from ACU and then students may choose to go onto further study in an undergraduate degree at university.

Students attend a weekly lecture at the Caroline Chisolm Centre in Mt Druitt, followed by the Learning Partner/tutorial session.

Each student is matched with a volunteer Learning Partner.  Learning Partners provide support, encouragement and assistance to  help students undertake research, study effectively, structure assignments and develop critical thinking.

For your convenience, I have attached a flyer for our upcoming Information Day, as well as the course registration form, which can be completed and returned to us prior to the Information Day, if you have any keen students.

If you have any questions about this opportunity please do not hesitate in contacting either Edna on 8804 3434 / edna.milag@vinnies.org.au or myself.
