Clement University History Program On Greater Understanding Of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders..... Free Course

Today, I have received an email from Edna Milga from St Vincent De Paul Society of a Clemente University History Program offered to potential student, who would like to participate in a greater knowledge and understanding of  Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, history and contemporary  issues.

Edna is from the Caroline Chisholm Centre, Mount Druitt offering this free course to the Mount Druitt and wider community

She states, "We have a program in our Centre called Clemente. The Clemente Program with St Vincent de Paul (NSW) Western Sydney, and the Institute of Advancing Community Engagement (IACE) at the Australian Catholic University (ACU) are working together to create opportunities to help people make a fresh start through university education. The Clemente Mt Druitt Program offers at no cost, supported, tertiary level education in the humanities for people experiencing significant disadvantage.

The philosophy of the programme is simple – that education can change lives. A return to study can enable some people to experience significant, positive change when they are supported to achieve their goals. Clemente students typically face challenges such as substance abuse, mental health issues, previous imprisonment, homelessness and/or social isolation.

Clemente offers a chance for participants to reach their potential. By studying subjects such as Ethics, Sociology, Philosophy, History, Politics and Art in an inclusive environment, participants are able to express their ideas, feel valued and gain confidence.

The Clemente Programme is a proven success, having run internationally for over a decade. Clemente imparts a sense of empowerment to get back on track in other aspects of life.

The Course
The course comprises a 13 week unit of study per semester. The unit is a first year humanities subject with university standard assessments. Participation is the key goal. Successful completion of the four units qualifies students for a non-award Certificate in Liberal Studies from ACU and then students may choose to go onto further study in an undergraduate degree at university.

Students attend a weekly lecture at the Caroline Chisholm Centre Mt Druitt, followed by the Learning Partner/tutorial session.

If you are able to advertise this programme on your website for next semester that would be fantastic! I have attached the Flyer for your review.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards,
