Chifley is 10.9% Safe Labor seat from the 2013,  After 2 Party Preferred counting of the votes Ed Husic (Labor Party) was re-elected with 49,831 votes 60.55% and Isabella White (Liberal Party) with 32,470 votes 39.45%.
.
This is the part that gets me, the hidden factor is  there was 12,690 informal votes, which I think is quite high, especially with 9 candidates running for the seat. What can candidates need do to reduce the informal rate? I think there are many many factors that create this as these results:

  • In between elections the importance of voting and making  your vote count formal doesn't gain that much interest.
  • Within our education system school teachers need to educate the young on the importance of voting no mater what candidate you vote for! Make each vote count!
  • Lack of interest of supporting any politicians because of the  Saying 'Our member does nothing for us!'
  • No interest in politics
  • Not understanding 'People Power'!
  • Didn't vote properly

At the  last Federal election, with the total amount of votes being 94,991 (including informal votes)  approximately 13.3% of the votes were informal, that will leave  2 party preference voting (with informal)Ed Husic elected with  a lower percent of 52.5%  Isabella White with a reduced 2 Party preference of 34.2%. Yet, the 2 party preferred counts excludes informal voting as part of percentages!
