Opal Cards Appears That Top Ups Could Be At Train Stations Including Mount Druit - In The Future!

A Mount Druitt public transport spokesperson has indicated that all the signs are showing from Sydney Trains and NSW for Transport that they are looking at removing paper tickets from ticket sellers at trains stations by approximately July 2015.

At present, commuters have to contact Opal directly on 136725 or apply for opal Cards from retail outlets like Woolworths and Seven Eleven. Also topping up Opal Cards is not acceptable at the ticket offices of Railway Station,  because Opal is a private business and Sydney Trains is publicly owned. There are claims that Opal originally didn't want topping up or applying for Opal Cards to be done at the railway stations ticket offices.

Lots of commuters approach the Mount Druitt train station ticket office to top up only to be told politely, 'It can't done!' Then directions are usually provided to them for the nearest outlet.

It seems that once the 'Paper' tickets are gone that commuters may be able to top up at the ticket office of Mount Druitt train station and others. It appears that discussion with Opal for the topping up to be done at train stations, may be in current discussions.

The  spokesperson gave an example of every day life, showing how the tickets are being topped up now can be improved:
"When you or your family go grocery shopping, when you reach the checkouts with two full trolleys and get told to not pay at the  checkout of the shop and pay at a different shopping place. Currently same thing is happening at train stations"!

Maybe candidates for the Mount Druitt and Londonderry State Electorates may want to advocate for this change as well!
