I received notice today from Lester Pasley, Secretary of the Mount Druitt Commuters Improvement Group Inc., details of a great Opera talent we have within Mount Druitt: Ayse Goknur-Shanal. She has got a talent voice, reminds myself of Dame Joan Sutherland!
On Sunday evening (March 15), Diana and I went to
Parramatta Park to see a concert organised by Opera Australia featuring
300 members from 12 Western Sydney choirs and 4 soloists from Opera
Australia. One of them is Dharruk resident Ayse
Goknur-Shanal who is a Lyric Soprano (photo attached)
Ayse performed a number of songs with the choirs
backed by the Penrith Symphony Orchestra conducted by Simon Kenway. It
is certainly good to see someone from Mt Druitt rising to great heights
and good for the arts scene in Western Sydney
with 12 Western Sydney choirs and 1 Western Sydney orchestra performing
at the amphitheater in Parramatta Park next to the river.
