Rumour From A Community Member... William Mason Reserve To be Changed.....

This is a 'third person' rumour, meaning that it was mentioned to a community member in North Mount Druitt  and that community member mentioned to myself. Maybe we can get this rumour confirmed  as true or false, by a Blacktown City Council officer as this is where the information apparently came from.

So the 'Third person' rumour was that William Mason Reserve, North Mount Druitt has been sold by Blacktown City Council and will be changed to a major shopping Centre. It has been approved to be developed by financial developers, as competition to Westfield Mount Druitt.

Now, this is a major Reserve in the heart of North Mount Druitt, that needs to be retained in the area as it is used by our local community, quite regularly for exercise, fitness and just walking around the area.

If it is not true, then we just need to ask proof from people that are possibly creating rumours, which are not facts. At this stage, we will check with Blacktown City Council, via this published post to see if what has been rumoured is true or not. Let's get our minds cleared.

Blacktown City Council - Media Release - The Levy Is Broken -Don't Fix It

MEDIA RELEASE
Description: Description: BCC Logo 2007 Ver - Coloured - Outline Text

31 May, 2017

The Mayor of Blacktown City, Stephen Bali, has congratulated NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian for having the courage to stop a flawed process before further damage was done.

“It was clear the Fire and Emergency Services Levy was ill-conceived and was going to cause a lot of pain to the community,” Mayor Bali said.

“It is a strong leader who is willing to recognise potential failure and act to head off disaster, rather than grimly soldiering on, unprepared to back down.

“I encourage the Premier to take the same approach to other decisions – such as forced local council amalgamations and tolling the M4,” he said.

Mayor Bali said he had been contacted by many Blacktown residents and ratepayers who said they would be far worse off under the proposed scheme.

“We could not find one person who said they were better off or had a saving:  indeed it was exactly the reverse.

“One resident told me he paid a $66.62 insurance levy last year and faced a $230.31 levy under the new system.

“This was replicated across the Council area and flies in the face of the NSW’s assurances we would be better off under the proposed scheme,” he said.

Mayor Bali said this year’s Blacktown rates notices will go out as usual and are expected to go out on time, despite the change.

Amazing How The NSW Emergency Levy Has Been Placed For Review' By NSW Premier And Treasurer

Yesterday, we reported how the NSW  Fire and Emergency Services Levy being off-loaded to NSW Local Councils from Home owners insurance policies was  looking to be implemented and how it had appeared to not be related to Council Rates Bills.

Blacktown City Council was "seeking information" from the community, in support of  the Fire and Emergency Services Levy or the opposition to it being 'Billed' by Blacktown City Council, itself.

After, 'Calling for information', suddenly the NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian and NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet have announced a review of the Fire and Emergency Services Levy being  off-loaded to  NSW Council rates.

I understand the reasoning behind moving the Fire and Emergency Services Levy from NSW Government to NSW Local Councils, as
That  the Levey wasn't paid by  householders not holding insurance and under insurers. Yet that is no reason to shift the bill across the shoulders of Local Government, who will received no direct benefit from the levy and is only administrating it.

Great news for the community in the meantime.

Willmot Bus Stops Clossures Can Be Prevented by Extrernal Cameras On Busways Buses.

So when we refer to the NSW Governments decision to close 2 bus stops at Willmot, just over a month ago, it came to myself a suggestion that may bring a bit of light into this subject and then ask questions.

So it appears as advised by a local community member that  Penrith Police have caught missile/rock thrower(s) in Penrith and they have been charged. It is lead to believe, it was the external videos cameras on a bus that have caught the missile/rock thrower(s).

The question rises, if that is the case, the same Busways buses travel in and around Mount Druitt, around Willmot and they carry external cameras. I would then say that Busways may have video evidence of anti-social issues, where the bus stops have closed at Wilmott. Then by providing this evidence to the NSW Police any person(s) involved can be charged and bus stops re-opened. How is that not happening, now?

Effects of Emergency Services Levy Added To You Blacktown City Council Rates - How Do You Feel?

Call Out For Information
Description: Description: BCC Logo 2007 Ver - Coloured - Outline Text

Blacktown City Council is now looking at the effects of removing the Emergency the Emergency Services Levy off Insurance policies and transferred it to the responsibility of charging on Local Council Rates.

Is this a fare process? Does this seem right to offload it from insurance companies that collected this levy, prior to Local Government's to collect it from rates. Blacktown City Council is seeking information especially if it is unfair.

I have 2 views on this and the first one is:
  1. If any State/Territory charges any Levy, levies have to be paid. I have no question on this. Why Levies are charged, would have been debated and passed through NSW Acts and Regulations, prior to today
  2. If a State Levey is offloaded to Local Council, I find it difficult to understand that the Emergency Services Levey (which funded by the NSW Government), should be paid this way, Councils burdened to charge the levy, explain the levy and then collect the levy.
In the long run it seems that the NSW Government may be offloading from insurance policy holders to house and business rate payers are they seeking to reap more funds, through Local Councils, when Locals Councils, do not benefit from it directly.

Here is what Blacktown City Council is asking its community members:

"Tell us how the Emergency Services levy affects you?

Blacktown City Council is looking for case studies of people who have been adversely affected by the State Government’s decision to make local councils collect the Emergency Services Levy.

It is estimated that some Sydney homeowners are facing annual NSW fire and emergency service levies that are three or more times higher than their current insurance payments, and Blacktown City Council is looking for real examples to use in its media campaign of disapproval and disgust.

Contact Council if you currently pay an emergency services levy through insurance and are prepared to provide details of the amount. This will then be compared with the estimated new levy, that will be collected through the rates system.

If you are also prepared to be quoted as a local resident in a Mayoral media release, that would be a huge bonus.

The new annual levy formula for homeowners is to be calculated by adding a $100 fixed rate and a variable rate of $21.90 for every $100,000 of unimproved land value as set by the NSW Valuer-General’s office.

Under a NSW government’s case study for ratepayers, a ratepayer owning residential land valued at $600,000, who paid a $92 levy this year, faces a new levy of about $220.

Others homeowners face an even bigger levy as unimproved land values soar well above $1m in Sydney’s east, north, inner west and south.

Property owners can work out their precise levy using a calculator on the fire services and emergency services levy website at fesl.nsw.gov.au."

If you would like to help Council make its case that the levy is unfair, email their media co-ordinator Alan Gale at mediaunit@blacktown.nsw.gov.au

Blacktown City Council Media Release - Bill McNamarra Corporate Citizen Of The Year

MEDIA RELEASE
Description: Description: BCC Logo 2007 Ver - Coloured - Outline Text

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
17 May, 2017
Bill McNamara Corporate Citizen of the Year

Blacktown City Council has named builder, developer, and entrepreneur Bill McNamara as the 2017 Blacktown Corporate Citizen of the year.
Mr McNamara’s buildings include Parramatta’s Riverside Theatres, Blacktown’s WestPoint Shopping mall, the JA Fleming stand at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse and Parramatta Cultural Centre.
He also owns and operates the Del Rio Riverside Resort at Wiseman’s Ferry and has guided the development of Western Sydney, having served on numerous community and government consultancy boards.
“Bill McNamara has shaped Western Sydney and he has consistently given back to the community,” the Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Stephen Bali said.
“Not only has he been a businessman, but he has also given time and knowledge to the community and has seen Blacktown change from a small town to a huge city,” Mayor Bali said.
“From humble beginnings as an apprentice carpenter at Riverstone Meatworks and commuting to Granville Tech in the late 1940s, he has built a business empire that has contributed hugely to the betterment of Western Sydney.”
One of the original inductees into the Blacktown Hall of Fame, in the early 1970s he created the biggest single development in Blacktown, Westpoint Shopping Centre.
Now about to turn 90, he has served on numerous community boards and - until last year - was on the board of Blacktown Venue Management, which manages Blacktown International Sports Park.
Awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1984, he was also was the driving force in engaging small business involvement in the lead up to the Sydney Olympic Games.
The award was announced on Tuesday 16 May in front of some 150 western Sydney business leaders who attended the launch of the 2017-18 Blacktown City Council budget, which was addressed by former Deputy Prime Minister Wayne Swan.

Bill McNamara OAM and Blacktown City Council Mayor, Councillor Stephen Bali.

Biography
Mr Bill McNamara OAM
Mr Bill McNamara is a well-known entrepreneur whose careers spans more than 60 years in business; most notably in the construction and building industry. He also owns the Del Rio Riverside Resort in the Hawkesbury.
The McNamara family has been part of the City’s history since the 1920s when Bill’s family, starting from humble beginnings, first moved to Riverstone from Western New South Wales.
Mr McNamara was the fourth child of Harry and Olive McNamara, born on the 19th October 1927.  He attended Riverstone Public School from1934 to 1940, and completed his secondary schooling at Auburn High School, gaining his Intermediate Certificate.
Bill was brought up by his mother, after his father died in an accident. His mother, Olive, became a formidable role model to Bill and his siblings. Bill was motivated to support his large family. He recalls during his schooldays how he always wanted to become a builder and remembers fixing structures and nailing iron on to fowl sheds that had blown off in the wind.
He became an apprentice carpenter at Riverstone Meatworks, signing up for five years with the Riverstone Meat Company and attending Granville Technical College.
Mr McNamara grew up and played football in Riverstone and, at 29 years of age, was singled out by the then Minister for Local Government (and future Premier) Jack Renshaw in 1957 who said Bill “set an example to all young Australians and had shown what could be done by ability and willingness to take a chance.”
In 1953, the McNamara Group built an office and joinery in Riverstone Parade, Riverstone – one of the first factories to be built in that industrial area. Three years earlier, he married Pat Hynds and they built their then home at 22 Hunter Street, Riverstone.
As the company grew, Bill decided to move his office to a renovated house in Church Street, Parramatta, ultimately being located in his own building, the McNamara Centre.
The McNamara Group has delivered many of the large scale developments that have shaped both Blacktown and Western Sydney over the past 50 years. Such buildings include the WestPoint Shopping Mall at Blacktown and Marketown mall at Riverstone, numerous high schools (including Dundas, Mt. Druitt, Glenfield, Macquarie Fields, and Fairfield). Other landmark buildings include the McNamara Centre, the Octagon, the United Permanent Building, the Parramatta Cultural Centre, the J.A. Fleming Stand at Rosehill and the Riverside Theatres.
In 1961, Bill purchased land looking over the Hawkesbury River and this became the Del Rio Resort. Once road access was made available in the early 1970s, Bill was able to establish this business to the success it is today.
Establishing a tourism business in an unknown area back in the 1970s wasn’t an easy task, however it is a great achievement with it being one of the oldest tourism products in the Hawkesbury Region.
He has given back to the community, having served on numerous community boards including Chairing the Economic Development Board of Greater Western Sydney for four years and serving as a board member of the Blacktown Venue Management, which manages Blacktown International Sports Park. He was also was the driving force in engaging small business involvement in the lead up to the Sydney Olympic Games.
Bill will turn 90 this year. He has 26 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He continues to work and serve the community. With all his success in the building industry, Bill has never forgotten his links with Riverstone, often referring to it as the ‘Golden Town of the West’ and is proud to recall his childhood memories there.

Blacktown City Council "Media Release"- Medieval Fayre Draws Record Crowd

MEDIA RELEASE

Medieval Fayre draws record crowd

The Blacktown City Medieval Fayre enjoyed the biggest one-day crowd in its 12-year history on Sunday.

“Blacktown’s first Medieval Fayre was held in 2005 and attracted 5,000 people over two days,” said Mayor of Blacktown City Stephen Bali.

“This year, 60,000 turned out for our Game of Thrones style event.

“While the wet weather kept some people away on Saturday, a record 45,000 came through Nurragingy Reserve on sunny Sunday – the biggest one-day crowd the Fayre has ever had.”

This free, two day extravaganza showcased all things medieval, including combat displays, live musicians, colourful pavilions and a working blacksmiths hut.

“The International Jousting Competition was once again the highlight of the event, with riders from Australia, USA and England all seeking to claim the prestigious title,” said Mayor Bali.

“It was thrilling to watch as fully armoured knights on horseback thundered towards each other with their lances aimed high, attempting to unseat each other.”

The Feathered Friends show featuring impressive birds of prey including eagles, hawks and owls was also a drawcard, Mayor Bali said.

The Medieval Fayre kicked off the Blacktown City Festival for 2017, a week-long festival from 20-27 May featuring kids’ concerts, ice skating on the Village Green, stand-up comics, and a dessert festival in the Civic Plaza.

It all comes to a spectacular close at the Streets Alive and Parade Day in Blacktown CBD on Saturday 27 May.

The day will include all the old favourites – amusement rides, the street parade and market stalls – plus exciting new additions – the world famous Wiggles performing on the main stage.

Mount Druitt Trains Stations Lifts Getting Upgrade

I noticed that a couple of the lifts were being barricaded from commuters and thought this is strange as maybe they will be out for a couple weeks, at Mount Druitt train station.

After speaking to a Sydney trains spokesperson at Mount Druitt Train, I was notified that the lifts are up for upgrade for the next 2-3 days and  this is to reduce maintenance break downs times in the future. Apparently Sydney Trains Management, requires it to be done straight away. They will be back in operation as soon as possible.

With Property Developers Coming Up Into Our Local Government Area...You Have Help To Negotiate With Them...

As our local community grows and blocks of land with/without house is require to build median density properties like Town Houses or  Blocks of units, the individual homeowner is sometime s defenceless when it comes to negotiating with  Property Developers Who Have the  funds to purchase for one big reason : to make a profit.

Now, I'm not saying making a profit is not good but the home owner make not have enough bargaining power to get a higher price for the sale of the property and succumb to the Developers purchase price. They also may not know  how to deal with them, not placed in this position before. Here you have to think are you getting the right price? Or have they undermined your selling price and squeezed you down, to get a larger profit share.

Especially around the Hub of Mount Druitt, where this type of housing activity is happening, if Developers knock on your door - the question is what do we do?

Image may contain: textWell to assist you with this I have met Kthryn Bondoc from Kingdom Property Development, deals with Property Developers purchasing land from individual home owners. With her natural knowledge of this industry she does  all the paperwork and bargaining to  obtain the best price for each customer and each customer is surprised when the  final payment is in their hand.

Mount Druitt Reconcilliation Day Shines 20 Years On......

Uncle Wes and Community

For 20 years Mount Druitt has held the historical Reconciliation Walk at Mount Druitt Town Square, which recognises our
traditional land owners and their elders, in our beautiful country., Australia. It is with our indigenous people's assistance that our communities have grown to what and where we are today. Our 'Thank you' day.

We should'nt lose our own original culture as people from other countries and cultures move into our lovely Mount Druitt community, where people care.

The beaut thing about the Mount Druitt Reconciliation Walk, it is organised by both Indigenous and non-indigenous community members, who have the compassion to make this day successful. Todays event  was looked at as a 'Cancelled Event' with the rains coming in the morning, but as I always say, 'God works in mysterious ways'. The sun shined throughout the day from 10am onwards and funny enough I remember that has happened for one or two years before.

There were plenty of community store open  to showcase  what they do to help out our communities, as follows:

Next 2 stalls you had to write words of what 'Reconciliation' means to myself. Yes I did that and stuck it on the Aboriginal flag.

And there was a game of knowing Australian important aboriginal people. I got it wrong.

And then there was TATU an aboriginal group from Redfern, looking to move into Mount Druitt called 'Talking About Tobacco Use'. They are  looking at reducing the tobacco smoking from within their aboriginal community. I think even every Australian should be giving up tobacco smoking - just an opinion.
