Storm Havoc In Mount Druitt - Torn Shade Sails in Westfield, Mount Druitt!

Last night there was torrential rain that struck Mount Druitt and caused blackouts. Mount Druitt is not accustomed to many torrential rains, but last night traffic was stopped at the corner of Woodstock Road and Carlisle as drains were flooded, preventing car to traverse across roads.

Although , there was a local advocacy for Shade Cloths/sails to be cleaned and  properly maintained, then what happened last night might not have happened.  Click here for previous blog .

Now you will see two night pictures showing you torn shade cloths, that have not been removed by Westfield Mount Druitt Management entirely, cars could have accidents. It takes a community website like ours to reach out to the local authorities and  get these things fixed up. If only Westfield Mount Druitt had listened! We apologise these are night pictures.   We will obtained  day time photos for you to see, tomorrow!

Westfield Mount Druitt Further Leaks Inside And Outside!

They say when it rains, it pours. It seems like it is pouring at Westfield Mount Druitt. We showed you Leaks Dropping From Westfield Mount Druitt Building

Now we will show  you a bigger leak spreading to the Westfield Mount Druitt part of Dawson Mall and internal leaking problems.

Although it has been for at least 2 days the outside one, it appears the same size this afternoon. The other leak from inside Westfield Mount Druitt, seems to have temporary controlling measures to warn shoppers of trips and spills, which could lead to major spinal injury, broken bones, and possible disability if an incident occurs under the Australian Work Health and Safety Regulation and Acts 2010. It is situated near the center stage and is in a spot where there is many shoppers walking past. We ask that proper WHS inspections are conducted, to prevent and potential future incidents. Work Place Inspectors are called in to inspect this sight at Westfield Mount Druitt and monitor their reviewing process.

In fact, the area could have been cordoned off, preventing shoppers to go near the buckets and signs!

To Give You An Idea Of Growth Within Mount Druitt!

We have had a response from Blacktown City Council A/Governance Officer, Blacktown City Council, regarding new housing  approved since the beginning of the year:

Dear Mr Svoboda

Further to your email below, please be advised that there were 9 approvals granted for the period 1 January to 10 March 2014.

Trusting you will find the details helpful.

Council Ref:  GIPA 14/340

So this means on average within Mount Druitt, there is at least 1 approval per week for new housing thus - this  means more land is being used, approximately  52 house per year, if a family of  4 per household - extra 408 living in the area per year, after twenty years growth of population 8,160 (without natural population growth).

So this is where we have to  look at the future and look at immediate improvements for the community straight away - other with will not be able to cope with further community infrastructure.

Council has a great important role to play, to ensure that Local, State and Federal Government properties are well maintained and serviced to meet community needs. Furthermore that any issues that is raised regarding Major Shopping Centers, issues of concern are raised to the relevant owners, so they they comply with community needs and not leave the community left behind.

Further Information On Bike Racks Potential At Westfield Mount Druitt And Council Venues: Parks And Gardens!

Again, response from Senior Transport Officer, Blacktown City Council on  Bike racks at Westfield and Council venues: parks and gardens:

John,
Thank you for providing this information.
Council does not have the authority to undertake works inside private properties such as shopping centres. Notwithstanding, Council will on your behalf refer the matter to the Management of Westfield Mount Druitt for consideration and reply direct to you.

With regards to your suggestion for provision of bicycle racks in Council parks, the matter has been referred to Council’s Sports and Recreation Section for consideration. Also, Council will continue to attempt to  provide additional parking facilities at Council’s venues should demand for such be identified.

I trust the above information is of assistance to you. Should you require further information on this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Shennan Walkway, Mount Druitt In The Wet!

Whilst I have showed dry photos of Shennan Way Mount Druitt, we forget to realise when the rain comes puddles appear and make it difficult for community members to walk on getting to their destination. Here is a photo showing the  puddles as a result of rain, more reason to request for improvements on Shennan Way:

I am sure the General Manager and the Officers of Blacktown City Council, would not like to get caught in a heavy downpour of rain walking down  here and of course many other community members! Not to mention cyclists who also use this route as part the Blacktown City Council Bike Plan 2013.

We Could Have Cycle Racks That Are Modern In Westfield Mount Druitt Car Park And Other Community Amenities!

This  Bicycle rack is based in Parramatta, in Church Street. You will notice how the metal piece has been been used as a  modern sculptured artwork  that fits into today's society and community.

If the same type of designed  bicycle rack is provided to the community at Westfield Mount Druitt and other local shopping Centers and or parks and gardens, this will be a great concept to be used as part of the Bicycle plan of Blacktown City Council Integrated Transport Management Plan.

Shennan Walkway Mount Druitt Needs Drastic Footpath Improvements - Potential Incident - Health and Safety Issue!

A major footpath used by hundreds of  community members every day use Shennan Walkway (as per Google Maps) to and from the main Road of Luxford Road, Mount Druitt and to their homes in North Mount Druitt.

Patch work  has been done in done place as a ban-aid affect, yet  there doesn't seem to be any initiatives from Blacktown City Council to provide improvement in this major walkway.

A great walk way has been engineered to be constricted to make it  accessible for community members with prams and disabilities, yet the majority of the community members make their own  track breaking off from the concrete path - and the soil has  in the meantime  been diminishing away from the track, creating deeper steps in a muddy and unpleasant area.

We don't know how often Health and Safety Officers from Council  audit these areas and  would safely walk on the path (without heavy boots) and test the condition for community members!

Just thinking of the lawsuits that could arise for not proper maintenance of  Council property!

This is the start to  Blacktown City Council's Bike Plan

You will see in the fare distance that is the improvement made on the Earl Street, Footpaths and Cycle Ways!

Nearly Final Stage Of Earl Street, Mount Druitt Footpaths and Cycle Way Improvements!

Great job to Blacktown City Council and  to their concrete sub-contractors, whom have achieved such a wonderfully constructed street footpath improvement. The foot path is slightly wider and looks great!

There is one or two minor  things that need to be done. Some community members have pinched the new grass strips that were laid on the side, they may have to be replaced and I think constant watering ( unless  constant rain comes in), to ensure the grass doesn't die, coming to winter - as the  grass hardly grows.

And lastly, we require as part of the Mount Druitt Cycle path plan, markings on the footpath to indicate it is a cycle path. Previously, it was split into two: indicating which side pedestrians walk and which side the cyclists travel.

Light At William Mason Reserve Addressed By Blacktown City Council Traffic Officer!

Interesting letter from Officer of Blacktown City Council looks after different community areas in and around Mount Druitt community. Park Lights not working resolved by Blacktown City Traffic Officer: I think that is because the light post is  over a public footpath in a park!

Response from  Council Officer was:

"As the repair and maintenance of street lighting is the responsibility of Endeavour Energy and not Council, the matter has been referred to Endeavour Energy for attention. Should you wish to follow up on this matter, please contact Endeavour Energy on 131003 and quote the following Reference Number: 1395621409589.

Your e-mail also requested information as to how often parks and gardens are checked for proper lighting. It is considered that responsibility for inspection, lies soley with Endeavour Energy as the responsible authority. Council Relies of park users advising of maintenance needs. These reports are then forwarded onto Endeavour Energy for their action".

We will  asked what reporting process (if any) is used by Endeavour Energy to Blacktown City Council (once inspections are made),as then Council would know when Endeavour Energy are checking  lighting in parks and gardens (to date Council doesn't know)? Also how does Council advise Community members of Blacktown on  their website that users of park....?

Finally,  what notices will be placed on light posts to inform the community to contact Council and/or Endeavour Energy?

Westfield Mount Mount Druitt - Little Support For Cyclists who shop!

I have seen people from Mount Druitt  that commute by bicycle to their home and they are carrying parcels of goods from shopping centres, most from major shopping centres in Mount Druitt like Westfield.

We tend to have ample of car spaces, potholes, roads circling to car parks, unshaded and dirty shade cloths car spots, just polluted cars travelling around the area. There is no Bicycle lanes and more importantly, no bicycle lockup areas to promote commuters to do their shopping via cycling.

We understand the emphasis of promoting cars to park in the car park of shopping centres but whilst we live in the modern area of people using cyclists to be fit and health, riding in safe manners, we need to look at a designated areas for lockups for bicycles, in Mount Druitt, provided at a cheap cost to the shopping community (free) as cars park free in Mount Druitt. This would then support Blacktown City's Council's Bicycle plan, by providing a much needed services.
Similar to these Council Cycle lockups

It should be  known as Mount Westfield Car park and Bicycle Park!

Promotion of these  lockups or fully secured bike lock up racks, with full camera security. Not like what is provided to the community at this stage like this photo may show:

Mini Fruit Marketer In Dawson Mall!

On some Fridays I walk along in Dawson Mall and there is this man that sells fruit to passer-buyers.  His fruit and vegetable would be able to be  sold to handful of customers!

Here Is A Common Busker At Mount Druitt - Everyone Knows Him - He is A great Local Entertainer!

When we talk about great  people that or even people that make Mount Druitt, it is all of us. Some of us do it public and here is a fine example. You name it he will play the song you want! In fact he has that country style voice that adds that special tone to the song!

When you see him donate to him as his songs are worthy of any valuable donation!

Pedestrian Crossing East of Luxford Road, Mount Druitt (Entrance to Westfield) Go Ahead With Council!

Another improvement that has been approved by Blacktown City Council (They can see the Community Health  & Safety Issues that are occurring), for recommendation To Westfield Mount Druitt and  NSW Roads and Maritime Services for consideration.

So again, where the community have been afraid to raise their voice (without assistance from a Local Councilors), using visual pictures,  publishing  blogs on the world wide web, e-mails to General Manager of Blacktown City Council and also the  the general e-mail of  Blacktown City Council. Another great result for the community, from the Senior Transport Officer of Blacktown City Council's response:

Dear  John,

I have referred your request for the pedestrian crossing at the traffic lights on Luxford Road and entry to Westfield Mount Druitt to Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) for consideration as provision of a pedestrian crossing at traffic lights needs RMS investigation and approval.
Further information will be forwarded to you once the matter is considered by RMS.

I hope this information is of assistance to you.

Should you require any further on the matter please do not hesitate to contact me.

Leaks Occurring From Westfield Building Mount Druitt!

Although this is not a major issue that is concerning community members of Mount Druitt but leaks that are not noted by authorities, can cause major engineering catastrophe if the leaks  get bigger and bigger. A small leak can lead to a large leak!

We don't know if the water or liquid is contaminated or is is storm water/ rain water?

Check this out, caught by myself on camera. Outside the main entrance at Dawson Mall:

See How A Community Member Inspired Blacktown City Council To Make Changes At Plump Park Wetlands And Flora!

Another issue raised to myself (and I listened) referred to Blacktown city Council and they listened and are very caring.

We are not here to criticise any efforts Council does to make the Mount Druitt and surrounding area a great place to live, work and visit! Complements must be provided to the right authorities.

This now proves that the suggestions from individual people make the change. People should now not be afraid to communicate with Local Government Areas, to get the result they want to improve the area. The person that suggested about the the BBQ's and toilet amenities issue area issue  should take the credit for making that suggestion - I'm just the messenger!

Here is the full extract from the e-mail received from the Natural Area Coordinator from Blacktown City Council:

Dear John (C14/10653)

Thank you for your email regarding Plumpton Park wetlands and flora. I have passed on your wonderful comments to the staff who maintain the park. I know they endeavour to make the park an appealing place for the community to use.

As soon as we are aware of items not functioning (e.g. BBQ’s) within the reserve we program them to be fixed immediately. In regards to the cleaning of the channel and stormwater outlet, these are programmed works and occur on a quarterly basis. Litter however is removed as part of the weekly actions of staff who maintain the site. Council is currently looking at methods to address  and stop the litter entering the park through the stormwater outlets.

Your suggestion to move the toilet amenities has been considered and it has been listed on Council’s Works Improvement Program for future consideration.

Council appreciates your concern for the park and encourage you to advise any other concerns or suggestions you may have.

Kind Regards

Footpath Access to Westfield From Luxford Road Mount Druitt -Inpropper Access - Stumbling Blocks!

Whilst we are looking at improvements of an inclusion of a pedestrian access on Luxford Road, Mount Druitt, crossing the road, we need further improvement of foot path access from Luxford road to Westfield entrance ( leading to the not fully ramp access).

You will see on the top picture if the pedestrian access is, ends at the  position where the  photo was taken, the going around the signs is very awkward.

Community members have made their own walking track on the rough surface on the left hand side of the signs. The signs will have to be moved to allow and provide better access to  community members.

Above photo shows you what community walk on after leaving the kerb. I sure  stake holders would not anyone to fall and/or trip and have accidents here!

We Require Blacktown Council To Act On Better Access To Bus Stops Whalan!

Community members who are constantly travelling on buses within the area have difficulty in accessing bus stops in the area.

We suggest Council Offers and all Ward 5 Blacktown Councillors inspect the bus stop access corner of Gasmatta Crescent (south) and Luxford Roads Whalan.

Mount Druitt Commuters Improvement Group Inc. has been lobbying  in the past couple of years for an improved bus service that travels all along Gasmatta Crescent but at the same time, The current bus stop supplied to community via decisions made by Blacktown Council Officers and other public transport stake holders, have not  provided a solution to the problem.

The problem is get rid of the overpass,  fill in both sides of the footpath to  even it out matching the level of Luxford Road. Expensive costs, possibly but totally neglected by  public transport stake holders. An immediate inspection needs to be conducted with a positive result for the community.

We will refer to Council for recommendation.

Enforcement Tools For Wastewater - Blacktown City Council

I have asked the question to the Senior Environmental Officer from Blacktown Council can Council do if wastewater occurs in businesses ( as per previous blog):

"Council has a variety of enforcement tools available, from verbal warnings, written warnings, Notices and Orders, Penalty Notices and prosecutions.

At this stage a penalty notice would not be issued.

If further reports are received that wastewater is being discharged from the premises, the matter will be investigated and the appropriate enforcement action selected."

This is because of an incident that ocurred at the Mount Druitt Asian Butcher and Seafood Shop at Westfield Mount Druitt.

William Mason Reserve Rubbish Pick Up Review Times - Rated "B" - Reserve Number 468!

I have received a letter from Blacktown City Council Sport and Contracts Supervisor, in relation to pick up of litter and rubbish at William Mason Reserve, Mount Druitt:

Reserve 468, William Mason Reserve is classified under Council's Open Space Strategy as a 'B' and as such is serviced every 20 working days in the summer growth high season (October to May) and every forty days in the winter low season (June to September). This does not include wet days and public holidays.

All litter and rubbish is scheduled to be picked up on each service; however this site does receive an additional weekly litter pick up.

Click Here For Original Picture On The Rubbish At William Mason Reserve!

This is a reasonably good service provided from Blacktown City Council, we know each time Council cleans up public areas it costs money. We need Council to teach the community to not leave rubbish behind at  public venues!

William Mason Reserve Mount Druitt - Needs Lighting To Be Fixed!

Picture taken from the south side of

Although the light is pretty reasonable in Mount Druitt for night time, at William Mason Reserve Mount Druitt one of the Electric Pole lights has blown out!

We need Council Officers to do night inspections to ensure there is proper and sufficient lighting in streets. Has your light blown out in your street with Mount Druitt. If so take a picture and let me know, we will get things done. The miss light is between the main pole in front and the next one (below left hand side)

Ramp Access At Westfield Mount - Now Being Reviewed!

Another good news is in relation to the ramp that is years old and  doesn't provide proper wheel chair access to community members within Mount Druitt Westfield shopping. In the past we have been living in the  'dark ages' and although, a representative from Council didn't think it was important for  this to chnage to full access to the community, The stake holders understand the risk involved  catering for the  wheelchair access community.

The following is via the  representative from Blacktown City Council, straight from Westfield Management:

"Hello John,

Here is the info I have received from Westfield’s regarding the ramp.

“We are currently investigating the history of the ramp and signage which is a number of years old as well as arranging for the compliance of the ramp to be checked against the required code at time of build.
Once we have all the relevant information we can determine what, if any, actions are required at this stage.

We will keep you informed as to date Mr Svoboda has not wanted to raise the matter directly to us but rather through council.”

I don't use a a wheelchair but I feel for the community member that use one now or in the future! I know it is not approved but it is making the Management of Westfield Mount Druitt, understand the important of proper access to the community!

Blacktown City Council Senior Environmental Officer Warns 'Mount Druitt Asian Seafood and Butcher Shop' Overflow Wastewater!

We have a positive response regarding discharge of water from Blacktown City Council, Senior Environmental Officer re overflow of wastewater from the Mount Druitt Asian Seafood and Butcher Shop:

"Hi John,

Thank you for your email.

I have spoken with the manager of the Butcher and Seafood shop today. I told them that they are not to allowed to discharge wastewater from the premises onto the footpath.

Should you see this problem again, please contact me, allow further action to be taken."

This in itself is a great result for Mount Druitt as I had a resident tell me that this wastewater overflow happens all the time! The problem here is people from the  community are afraid to complain to the relevant bodies or do not know how to complain or suggest in making improvements for the community.

I ask anyone that has any issues that you would like to raise to have fixed to  take pictures, place comments and sent it to an email to myself.

R.A.A.F Memorial Park - Fitness Park!

The R.A.A.F. Memorial Park, Mount Druitt is a great fitness park - that could set a e precedent in local parks and  gardens around Mount Druitt suburbs and within Blacktown City Council, it has 2  looping  walking, jogging, running and cycling paths, picnic areas, and multiple types of fitness activities to do, whilst going around the track.

It doesn't seem like other park around the area are following suit and this  could be based on the way Council deals with matters, referred to by Councillors.

Dangerous Cyclist In Mount Druitt At Luxford Road Intersection!

Some of us cyclist commuters take risks, when  travelling on roads. Spotted last week on at the intersection of Luxford Road and entrance road to Westfields Mount Druitt, a  bicyclist taking risks, on the wrong side of the  road, facing on coming traffic. We warn  bicyclists not to do this as this  places everyone in a dangerous and possible life threatening situation.

If you see anyone do this take a photo and refer to the relevant authorities. Tell anyone you know not to do this!

Westfield Hoyts Mount Druitt Ledge - Dirty!

Back in January this year I spotted  the ledge near Westfield Hoyts Mount Druitt, quite visually not being left as being cleaned. How often is this maintained? We don't know, it could be an annual event. This could be potentially a reason  that can sickness to people within the community, with them knowing it!

On 13th February 2014, I referred this photo to the General Manager of  Blacktown City Council via e-mail and advised that, 'I noticed a lot of dust on the ledge above the stairs - this could a health and safety issue  for the community (as per photo below).

It appears there may not be regular checks  to ensure this dust and dirt is not cleaned regularly. I was wondering if  you could investigate it and respond to my e-mail.and today I received a wonderful e-mail from the Blacktown City.'

Today, a wonderful e-mail arrived today from  a Blacktown City Council Senior Environmental Health Officer and this was the response, 'I carried out an inspection of Hoyts yesterday and confirmed your concerns.

I addressed the issue with Hoyts who advised that as the ledge is the responsibility of Westfield. They said they would bring it to the attention of Centre Management to make sure it is addressed.'

So the magic of  the internet world gets an  a public health and safety issue fixed!

SO this is where i will say to anyone within Mount Druitt, we can improve our Mount Druitt area, no matter how small it is and  raise to a place where it is so respectable and these issues are not let down by the relevant authorities. Let us know if you would  improvement to done in the community, send your photos to the website e-mail address.

Property Purchasers - Website To Help You!

We live in a world where I encourage people to purchase properties young, median age or old. Mount Falls into the lower end of the property affordability level and thus this present  ample opportunity for community members who do not want to keep on renting.

Here is a website to help people, no matter what age, advice which most first home buyers do not get!

Band Aid Fix For William Mason Reserve, Mount Druitt For The Momment!

I have received letter from Richard Amery, NSW Member for Mount Druitt regarding letter from General Manager from Blacktown:

They agree at William Mason Reserve, Mount Druitt the paving is showing signs of age. I would how long ago they inspected the park and it provided  this result. They are the path has tracks,  not displaced and don't  pose a hazard for pedestrians. That means no onw will fall down and hurt themselves while walking, jogging, running and cycling. That means they are safe!

In fact no - trips have many times happened many times in  many cracked paths They are looking to provide a 'Band-aid', within the next  3 weeks, subject to weather conditions. The reconstruction  of these paths are currently listed in Council's 'Works in Progress' ( Let Off For Now Queue) . Council calls it WIP. The funds for this project is priority and reassessed on an annual basis  for funding consideration.

This means if not next year the year after , yet if someone  is seriously injured due to the cracks, Council says hazard pose.
If one of their  employees were  injured, that  risk assessment with severely be raised and the project highly prioritised!

I've had Council offers check  a pathway with a heavy duty boot and their assessment is based on this type of footwear. was the assessment made on running shoes. I would like to see a copy of the assessment, this should be made available to the public! What shoes what type of shoes were they wearing?

Pacific Vision Charity Fundraiser In Mount Druitt!

What I love about Mount Druitt is the people that volunteer to help others by any way possible. As we understand that in our community, we do have essential services to meet our daily needs, as we live in what a lot of people call  'A lucky country'!

And as we live in a lucky country, we also live in a lucky community (although not as perfect as we want it to be)! Sometimes we need to reach out to others outside of Australia. We have  lots of people  originally from another country - even my parents arrived from another country (France and Czechoslovakia).

Pacific Vision charity fundraiser, Bal Chrishna has been fundraising for quite a few years to assist people that require improvements in  people lives, within the countries of the Pacific Ocean.

Update On Plumpton Park Wetlands And Flora Reserve!

Just talking to a few Mount Druitt community members, since posting the original story yesterday (Click here for original story), it appears a lot of people are aware of this park and beauty, hidden within the surrounding suburb of Plumpton. Further down the road is Plumpton shops, everyone is aware of.

Did you know: The Plumpton Park Wetlands, has an important natural link in  Western Sydney and the  Greater Sydney, as it connects eventually to the Hawkesbury River: flowing  onto Bells  Creek, joining Eastern Creek at Riverstone, then connecting to the South/ Wiananmatta Creek - close to South Windsor at finally at Windsor joining the Famous Hawkesbury River.

It has been brought to my attention that there may be a issues presenting  to the community whilst using the facilities within Plumpton Park, brought to my attention.

  • The bar-be-ques  in the  picnic and sheltered areas off Hyatts Road, sometime don't work.
  •  The  toilet amenities is apparently a long distance walk of approximately 500 meters  walk from the  picnic and rest areas.
We will check with  Blacktown how often the bar-be-ques get check for maintenance and how far the  toilet amenities is  as that could be a long walk for community members to use the facilities.

Plumpton Park - Wetland And Flora Reserve - Community Members Needs to Enjoy It! It Could Be A Nice Tourism Attraction As Well!

As a new  bicyclist, learning the roads and paths, discovering areas of Mount Druitt and  surrounding suburbs that I have never explored. Places that are hidden in our community.  We have so much in our community to showcase to the world.

One of the surrounding suburbs, Plumpton, is known as fairly new  springing suburb in the last 25 years and has a  shopping Centre that is  popular in demand (although not as big as Westfield Mount Druitt), it does complete against other shopping centers and has an easy to get to  and out of car park.

Imagine, in a midst of a hustle and bustle suburb, surrounded by man made roads. how many people know or have heard of or even seen this beautiful part of Mount Druitt.

This is something that I was sublime to me and I'm sure to others. I don't need to go to Sydney Botanic Gardens. We just need to go Plumpton Park and spend some peaceful time there!

Even ducks come  over to the great pond we have and you will see people feeding them, even children with bread. This is a an unique nature  place. Although no swimming is allowed, it a a tranquil place to be and rest your mind and your families mind. Plenty of spots to sit down, eat and rest, placing all life's worries side.

Families  and young couples can come here and say good things to others and  give and show the peace , we need to give to each other.

Enjoy the walking and bike track provided, although this could do with maintenance!
Some community members, must respect the place and take their own rubbish home and dispose to keep the park as natural as it is.

Enjoy watching the view to the great pond  watch the island that is in the middle
Then walk through some dirt track to reach a junction that  makes you return to the entrance of the park.

Views seen from the the side walking track

Can we make it across a walking bridge? Yes we can!

Plenty of spots to bring the car, unloaded the family and all equipment  to enjoy a beautiful family day!

Check out the Federation Garden, can you make suggestions to make this more beautiful?

This is what we need from Blacktown City Council to clean up, in this  channel of water that leads to to a dam and promote the community not to do this.  This would be from storm water.

Other than the last photo,  let's promote this as a great spot to visit in Mount Druitt surrounding suburbs!
