Parklights Could Be An 'Eye Sore' And Make Eyes Really Sore Next Door to Park/Reserves Within Mount Druitt - 'whyilovemountdruitt Face Book Group'

A great idea from one of our new members of 'whyilovemountdruitt Face Book Page', with a great idea in  park Lights/Reserves, supplied with appropriate lamp fitting, so that stops excessive glare on beside  housing properties.

Here is Shaunna's idea:

Shaunna Wilson If my bedroom faced the park I wouldn't want bright light. Not much thought is given to appropriate lamp fittings and placement to stop excessive glare from entering private lands adjacent to roads or park lands unless in exceptional cases a resident pursues it and requests a light change. Facing away from the homes, when building new paths and poles in parks, and use what's called an Aeroscreen luminaire, fully cutoff style, so that sideways glare is reduced. In this case, use Aeroscreen luminaires and on the side of luminaire closer to homes have a deflector to further reduce light entering the private property. Lower posts are appropriate in some locations but in our surrounds vandalism is an ever present risk which makes them at times inappropriate. Council is the decision making authority for placement, modification or relocation of street and park area lamps. Endeavour Energy provides the service to council and bills them for running costs and any costs for new fittings or changed fittings. Eg; replacing an old exposed Mercury vapour lamp shade with a fully cutoff Aeroscreen with CFL or LED inside. An example, note the metal surrounds the globe, and glass is clear and flat so side-way glare reduced. http://www.sylvanialighting.com.au/.../urban-eco-series...

From this post, we will seek feed back from  Blacktown City Councillors/ Officers on whether this can be done, is being done  and seeking the best most improved way of  reducing or eliminating light shining at neighbouring houses.

Lights Out At William Mason Reserve, North Mount Druitt

Although it was mostly daylight when I took this picture, there was one park pole light not working with lights at William Mason Reserve, North Mount Druitt, which needs to be  attended too.

So I will contact Endeavor Energy, to see how long they fix this up. Also ask them how often do they review park/reserve lights.

Another Month Or More To Fix Sagging Power Lines And Leaning Light Post - William Mason Reserve Mount Druitt!

Amazing, that although the storm damage that raged the Mount Druitt/Rooty Hill area and the aftermath takes delays for Endeavour Energy to  attending to High Risk to lives with sagging power lines and leaning light post in William Mason Reserve, North Mount Druitt.

Here is the email from their community advocate, confirming we haven't got time to do it  now, 'let's do it later on 31st March 2016'. It appears they have not rated it as a potentially high hazard and risk to the community with children flying kites to these lines and if another potential raging storm is in the same vicinity, that could cause harm or be fatal to any of our community members. I'm not being over protective, just ensuring that the community is safe from such potential hazards!

I have since placed the question why 10 weeks to get these properly addressed. No advice from the Endeavour Energy community advocate, for 2 days!

Here is the email:

William Mason Reserve, Mount Druitt Gets Reviewed Upgrade Seating and More Lights- Reviewed!

Well good news again, Blacktown City Council is  now working closely with 'whyilovemountdruitt'  and not only that the response is magnificent. Something that I am not used too. I think that all   Officers of Blacktown City Council from the General Manager onwards, should be congratulated, for implementing improvements for the community, as requested and required, making Mount Druitt a better place for all!

Now we have to announce another improvement that has been approved by Blacktown City Council, that is that seating for community members, near the children's playground amenities and further lighting upgrade as requested in previous blogs. This is at William Mason Reserve, Mount Druitt.

So you can see that pictures speak louder than words! What is meant here is that sending actual pictures make action happen. You can present a thousand page document (which the public community has no time to read or see), have professionals support it with various facts and figures and then it may be declined. Pictures of real community things that need to be changed make things happen - believe it!

I do have one suggestion for Blacktown City Council that on the 'Open Space Area Lighting Policy' the Mount Druitt community should be invited during the day and night to invite present and offer feedback from the community!

Quick Response From Blacktown City Council - Lights At William Mason Reserve!

It is great to see to see that Blacktown City Council  are responding to community  requests on Council land to cater and be responsible for 'Light On'  community audits to be  conducted on every  Council land  that has  lights in their amenities.

We are not placing blame on Blacktown City Council, we are only asking them to ensure proper measures are in place for Officers from Council, to essential  poles are on 'Council Owned Land' not 'Community Owned Land'.  There should be a Council Policy that ensures that these processes are in place. The majority of  the community are not aware of the processes involved in reporting 'Lights Out' in Council's Parks and amenities. There are no signs displayed on any light pole.

William Mason Reserve Mount Druitt - Needs Lighting To Be Fixed!

Picture taken from the south side of
William Mason Reserve
Although the light is pretty reasonable in Mount Druitt for night time, at William Mason Reserve Mount Druitt one of the Electric Pole lights has blown out!

We need Council Officers to do night inspections to ensure there is proper and sufficient lighting in streets. Has your light blown out in your street with Mount Druitt. If so take a picture and let me know, we will get things done. The miss light is between the main pole in front and the next one (below left hand side)
