Special Message From The Mayor, Blacktown City Council - This week

Nobody Knows What You Think Unless You Tell Them
It is clear the community of Minchinbury does not support the construction of the large Energy from Waste plant at Eastern Creek.
Last week’s forum at Minchinbury Community Centre attracted a standing room only crowd, all from the local area.

The audience let representatives from a company called The Next Generation know loud and clear that their plan to build one of the world’s largest waste-burning plants was more than on the nose.
But, opinions expressed at the forum will do nothing decide whether or not the plant is built.
The only way residents and ratepayers who oppose the project can do this is by lodging a submission with the Department of Planning and Environment.
We only have until March 1 to lodge submissions with the Department that outline our opinions about the project.
Full details about the EfW proposal are on the Department of Planning and Environment website, which is also where submissions are to be lodged.   Make your opinion count by lodging your submission at: http://majorprojects.planning.nsw.gov.au/index.pl?action=view_job&job_id=6236

Blacktown City Council will be deciding its submission at a special meeting at its council chambers at 62 Flushcombe Road, Blacktown on Wednesday February 15, starting at 6.30pm.

The Council will be adopting and then lodging a lengthy and detailed submission, outlining its many concerns about the development.
I believe the proposal fails on several grounds and is unsuitable for the area.  The NSW pollution laws fail to provide us with adequate protection.
Council’s submission will be available on its website on Thursday February 16.  Feel free to use it as the basis of your submission and then lodge a submission and make your opinion count.
The Minchinbury forum was the first of a series of monthly “Your Say” forums to be held by Blacktown City Council, giving residents the opportunity to let Council know about issues of concern in their neighbourhood.
Anyone wanting to attend should register their interest through the “your say” website, yoursay.blacktown.nsw.gov.au

Any inquiries about the “Your Say” forums should be made by email to forums@blacktown.nsw.gov.au or by calling Council on 9389 6000.

Last week, Council updated its formal policy on Badgerys Creek Airport.  The full report is attached. I thought you might like to read it.  Feel free to use it as the base for your submissions or comments to the Federal Government about the proposal.  We have done the research – you can use the results.

Mayor of Blacktown City
