Tips For Opal Users To Make Your Card Work.......

Opal I have been told by a Sydney Trains spokesperson that there is a proper way to use your Opal card, so that you get more 'Green Lights'.

Image result for Opal cards in walletsYet, some of us are placing the Opal cards in purses for females and wallets for males. So the simple solution is if you are doing this, not tap the Opal cards with other electronic cards in front or behind the Opal Card. It needs no interference, for allowing it top be 'tapped'.

Image result for Opal card at barriersSo just tap it by yourself with the card only in your hand and that will work better.

You get less 'red light's and more 'green lights' to go through the barriers. I hope you take note of this and try it.

We Farewell And Provide A Tribute To 4 Former Blacktown City Councillors of Ward 4 and 5

Every 4 years there are Blacktown City Councillors that are either not running for election and they retire or they have not been re-elected to Council for various reasons: not being pre-selected from  within their party or resigning from the party and running as an Independent. Each of the the three  Councillors that I would like to dedicate this post to them.

They each have committed so much time personal time in many years, to service their  local constituents and I'm sure that they have each achieved their goals in what they wanted to do as a Councillor of Blacktown City Council.

Image result for charlie lowles details
Retired Councillor, Charlie Lowles OAM, has served the community in Ward 5 for  a long twenty 27 years and his name is well known when it comes to local community improvements/issues. He normally places his hand up first and seeks ways of resolving our local community requirements and turns up at a lot of community events, enjoying himself. He was elected Mayor from 1995-1999 and from 2008-1010. He has  provided so much commitment to his community in everywhere he goes and has served our community with such pride leaving a mark that cannot be forgotten. We wish him well with his retirement.

Image result for EDmond AtallaRetired Councillor, Edmond Atalla has taken up elected office as the NSW Member of Mount Druitt elected to the 56th NSW Parliament in 2015, after  serving the community as a Councillor for over 12 1/2 years in Ward 4, this has given him great insight in being elected as a NSW State Member of Mount Druitt. This new role will give him great character and aspiration to be the best member of our area, especially with his  passionate views on public transport and Mount Druitt hospital as well as education. We wish him well with his newly elected office.

Former Councillor Isabelle White, elected since 2012, was  not re-selected from the local Liberal Party ranks. A vocal voice for the closing of Mount Druitt pool and change of name of Blacktown City name and a current High school teacher, we wish her well in  her future.

Former Councillor Jacqueline Donaldson, Ward 4 for 8 years has  provided quality dedicated time to her community and was recently a great support fro Mayor Stephen Bali, as soon as she was elected Image result for Jacqueline DonaldsonDeputy Mayor last year. She has supported community improvements from parks and gardens to bus stops to street improvements. She started with fixing and was elected as a Liberal Councilor in 2008, in 2015 resigned from the Liberal party due to local internal party politicking. She since ran as an independent,  and was elected Deputy Mayor for 1 year. Although  she contested Ward 4 as an Independent, she wasn't elected for her third term and will consider her options within the next 4 years, while she takes a well deserved rest. We wish her well with he future decisions.

State Member for Mount Druitt To The Rescue Of Un-Airconditioned Trains- The Heat Turns Up

Hon. Edmond Atalla, State Member for Mount Druitt has sent a letter, looking to see why we are  receiving - un air-conditioned trains in Western Sydney, Mount Druitt, on the Sydney Trains T1 line. This is especially, when fares have gone up dramatically after  8 trips, after the Opal Card was introduced.

The Free trips after 8 trips was a great concept to entice people to  move from private  transport into public transport, but the heads of NSW IPART didn't see that. The  "Free Fare Promotion", should have been maintained.

Maybe if offering other then First Class trains our fares should be reduced,no matter what the excuse is for offering 2nd class train carriages. I am happy that our local NSW State Member is raising this issue with NSW Parliament.

I have ask Dwayne from Mount to contact the  NSW State member and make his contact from there.

Western Sydney Rail Needing Scoping Study From All Western Sydney Communities - Australian & State Governments

Western Sydney RailThis is a good time to have your say with  the choice of selecting  rail corridors that are required to be implemented to compliment passengers and commuters traveling to and from the new Western Sydney Airport, based in Badgerys  Creek.

It is not usual for us to have a say on  Sydney rail and new possible  rail networks to be decided on for the future, meeting demands on traveling to and from the new airport.

The more the community opens its mind and decides quickly to register the survey, the more we can work with logical answers - the more we can get a better result from our community and provide the correct rail infrastructure that will benefit not just our community but all communities around  Western Sydney.

Well, there are plenty of ideas coming out into the world to improve our lives and not always do we see them. Sometimes when we do, we are shocked. Yes, let's have it here.

There is a brilliant idea on the below Face book video, where the idea could  be pick up in Australia, New South Wales, Sydney and even in Mount Druitt. That is if the local authorities want to make a change to the way we think and also keeping our private yards clean as well our public roads.

I don't think the below video's idea is a get rich quick scheme, but it is  on the best ideas around that I think talks should be in progress.

Keys To Safety - Mount Druitt Fire Station Face Book Page

From the Mount Druitt Fire Station Face Book Page, what a great clever idea for the community:

Safety Bulletin!

Do not give your child the keys to the car while you are filling it up with petrol.
Most keys have buttons to lock & unlock the car which a child will press
It's the easiest way to get you locked out, and your child locked in the car.
Yes, it happened recently & it all ended well.

Local Commuters Group Inc Is Changing To A Community Group

Another change for a local lobby group, may they succeed, but be mindful of leaving public transport and buses behind their agenda.

I know the original history of Mound Druitt Commuters Improvement Group Inc. and also Save Our Bus Services, Mount Druitt & Surrounding Suburbs as I was both founding President and Chair.

Originally, is was a bus lobby group, when 3 bus services were removed from the area and that is what those members of the group wanted  in 2009. I was a an unknown member of the community, yet I was entrusted, to lead a group of passionate people to meetings, speaking to Local and State politicians, Local and State bureaucrats and to bus drivers and Managers of Westbus and Busways.

Although, I grew so much with the community to help the community, our backs were against the wall yet we were lobbying against two members of the 'Government of the Day' as their were many reasons for that to happen.

When you speak to Council bureaucrats about removal of bus services, although they were supportive, they had very little power to get the NSW Government to change their mind.  I do thank the Manager of Traffic in Council  as he wanted  groups like ours to engage and be involved, by inviting us to Blacktown City Public Transport Forums, each year.

Then you speak to Bus drivers, ' It is up to management that decide on bus routes'. Then you speak to 'Busways Management' they blame the NSW Government  for removing bus services and then when you talk to NSW Transport Spokesperson, they advised it is based on surveys, feedback, ticket sales, local patronage and they never made that decision to remove bus services, that was left with the NSW of Minister of Transport and Roads.

So the finger pointing still  happens today. Yet I must say that although the two local State Members at the time, Mr Richard Amery, Member for Mount Druitt and the then Member for Londonderry, Allan Shearan, now I believe were not to blame - yet they copped the brunt of it. Based on the  facts presented to us. Their NSW Minister of Transport, Mr David Campbell had the pen that agreed to remove bus services. Why didn't our local members know abut it at the time?

If they did, would they have prevented these bus services to operate? I think they might have if they knew there was going to be upheaval. So the finger pointing went on and on and still does.

So this is when I  placed th my vision of changing the name of the group to looking after all types of public transport and that meant:  taxis and trains, bus top infrastructure and that why we came to an agreement to be called ,'Mount Druitt Commuters Improvement Group Inc'. Which sounded so official and had a great ring to it that Mr Richard Amery, then Member of Mount Druitt and the Member for Pittwater, Mr Ray Williams, mentioned  the website in NSW Parliament at times, it was getting very popular.

I  did not renew my membership for 2 years for a few personal reasons as well as I remember that I published a post congratulating Richard Amery for his service to the NSW Parliament and Mount Druitt constituents and at a meeting, it was raised that I didn't have group approval to do this. So, that is why I have  gone to 'Whyilovemountdruitt'.

Now the group wants to become a Mount Druitt main community group covering public transport  as part of many local issues. The idea is good but as advised by one of my idols: Joan, are we losing the main picture, by changing name.

There are a few groups in Mount Druitt but no major lobby groups, this could be a good concept to get the community being active and support this group. I know one thing they will not be able to maintain their current website/blogspot - a new website may be created. I'll have to ensure that records of the website is ready for archive and referred to the 'Mount Druitt Historical Society'.  Also a new Face Book Page with new illustrations and possible organise T-Shirts for the community with the funds they have, promoting their new group. Now a new  era is happening.

As for the name change, I think basically, Mount Druitt Progressive Community' could be a great name change, So we will  find out after they have their Meeting this week on this Saturday.

Good For The Community Environment - Additinal Pick Up Service With Delivery Service - Bing Lee Mount Druitt

https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS-m2EqvJkLF2nyFIvmQACDRZQIINfFu8rTyAWlrkONF1OaDRgClBru8CQFrom a community member from Mount Druitt, a new and great service is being organised by fairly new store, Bing Lee in Mount Druitt.

These may not be important to the individual customer  but they have widening positive results for the  consumer and  the  wider community and will make stake holders like Blacktown City Council, very happy as the community looks less as a dumping ground.

Image result for old washing machines cartoonSo, what is it? If you are purchasing a replacement washing machine, they are offering for the next month or two a free pick up of your washing machine, when delivering your new  replacement one. Now you can understand what the benefits are: as a consumer we are not dumping washing machines on  street kerbside and our streets community is looking more cleaner, friendlier and..... there is a reduced cost, not off-loaded to Blacktown City Council - which I believe can run into thousands of dollars.

I do suggest that Blacktown City Council meet with Bing Lee and other same type of businesses, to see if they can extend this service to their  customers, indeffinately.

It doesn't mention it in their service delivery  directions (below) but they advise what ever package is delivered they also remove all the package material and  recycle it. Another great job. So that is what they will do with the old washing machine.

Consider these options when you are purchasing washing machines. Unsure if this  explained to fridges, freezers and other electrical appliances - just go and ask them at Mount Druitt.

Summary Results, Ward 5, Blacktown City Council General Elections 2016

The Labor party has polled  with 15,715 votes, 59.68% with a commanding majority in Ward 4, Blacktown City Council with Liberals way behind with  5,160 on 19.6% of the total, Australia First Party 2,264 with 8.6% of the total votes, the Greens 2,081 votes, 7.98% of the votes and the remaining independents with 777 of the votes and 2.95% of the total votes.

Compared to 2012 election Labor went up only by 0.98%, Liberals went down by a dismal 1,877 votes being 5.6%, Australia First Party increased by 1,333 votes 5.2% The Greens increased by 213 votes 1.2% - and  all Independents went  down by 524 votes, 1.68%.

Shockingly  informal has almost doubled  from 8.6%  2012 to a high 16.02% (5,022). This is probably where Independents that ran at this election should focus on to gain the  extra votes to elect one in Council next time.

Here are the summary results from NSW Electoral Commission for Ward 5, Blacktown City Council:

So Elected will be Tony Bleasedale (Labor),  Brad Bunting (Labor) and a highly likely chance that Peter Camilleri (Liberal) will be elected as well, pending the results of preferences.

The quota to be elected as a Councilor is 6,774.

Summary Results For Ward 4, Blacktown City Council General Elections 2016

Compared to 2012 election Labor went up by 13.78%, Liberals went down by 14.12% - and Independents went  down by 0.67%. That was due to two new groups of Independents and one ungrouped Independent running for Ward 4.

Shockingly  informal has doubled  from 8.3%  2012 to a high 16.14% (5,215). This is probably where Independents that ran at this election should focus on to gain the  extra votes to elect one in Council next time.

Here are the summary results from NSW Electoral Commission for Ward 4, Blacktown City Council:
So Elected will be Mayor, Stephen Bali (Labor),  Carol Israel (Labor) and a highly likely chance that Linda Santos (Liberal) will be elected as well.

No Paramedics And Registered Nurses At Mount Druitt & Rooty Hill Stations For Health issues On Un Air-Conditioned Trains

In relation to the "Residents" Cool On Train Situation by the St Marys-Mount Druitt Star story  , I only have one feedback to provide to the  Sydney Trains spokesperson who advised  that there is 15 Paramedics and nurses at 15 stations, during week day peak periods

Out of 178  train stations in Sydney click here for Sydney Trains Info  only 15 have  Paramedics and nurses at 15 train stations - that is not even 10 percent that covers all Sydney Trains train stations and not to mention a smaller percentage would be covering out Western Sydney train stations.

So in relation to any health and safety issues for commuters on non air-conditioned trains for commuters we have none at Mount Druitt and Rooty and I'm pretty sure in St Marys at this stage. Commuters have to use the 'Help Point' if there is such an issue.

Well, if you have 100 percent air-conditioned trains and an extra 5% to cover  out of service carriages, then Western Sydney commuters will not have non air-conditioned trains, especially when fares are hiking up and  the NSW Government will reap more fares on after 8 trips of service.

Aussie Night Markets Blacktown - Will This Come To Mount Druitt?

Well what an initiative. We have businesses running 24 hours a day  within Mount Druitt like K-Mart and we have big businesses wanting to open longer hours, even though other shops like Woolworths  and Coles are open until late at night. They want to offer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 12 months in a year.... to capture the entire retail market and obtain a reasonable profit margin.

Yet, here we have something that would not be liked by the big stores, but could be a potential winner  for the community. Here it is Grand Opening of Aussie Night Markets Blacktown

Maybe we can have one here - see if you want to go to it.

Hot Sydney Trains - Airconditioning Required To Cool Down Commuters - 'St Marys-Mount Druitt Star'

We thank Reporter, Heath Parkes-Hupton from the St-Marys-Mount Druitt Star' for trying to help us get better conditions on trains running on the  Sydney Trains T1 Western Line. Where recently there has been a couple of days where  Sydney trains have not issued  air-conditioned trains to our important commuters, needing to have that extra comfort to make it easier to reach home, do the shopping, visit friends or even start work.

This can place commuters in better moods by having proper train carriage services, with proper air-conditioned trains. Gone are the days where we used to open windows and cop the heat in our face.

That regular train carriages are out of service and replacing 2nd rated train carriages, is a little bit rich

A Loose Pony Voter...... - 'whyilovemountdruitt' Face Book Page

Image may contain: outdoor, one or more people and nature
This is a runaway pony that was in Meacher Street, North Mount Druitt. Police were sent to the R.A.A.F. Memorial Park, North Mount Druitt, but of course the pony trotted off. I was told it was from a nearby farm. The gentleman beside is trying to talk to it---- I think it was listening to him.

Now the Day of Local Government Elections Are Over..... What Can Be Done For Next One To Alert Our Community

Time and time again, what I heard was, 'I didn't know about the election but saw the signs in front of the Polling Booth,' or ' no one told me about it', or 'a neighbour told myself about it', or 'We just voted, why do we have to vote again?' and it goes on.

So, is the community right in saying this and what can we do to advise relevant Stake Holders being the voters, the simple fact that 'There is a compulsory election'.

Well, the first point of view is Council's do not run their own elections. That could be a positive factor in many aspect or it could be a negative as well. The thing  the community might get from this is, 'Oh it is run by the NSW Liberal Government or it is run by the NSW Labor Party (if Government of the Day).

I personally think that is not the main issue. The issues we have been facing  are that we  have 3 tiers of government and this year we have had 2 tiers of government elections in one single year. Local Government elections is held every 4 years and same with NSW State Government but our  Federal Government Elections is every 3 years and hasn't caught up with Local and State Governments where elections are every 4 years for an election to be held.

So, we really need to change our election time periods to holding elections, so that all tiers of our  government elections are the same.  We need the Federal Government to change their government term to 4 years.

Then, we could have each tier of government election in each different year, consecutively one after the other and a rest for the 4th year.  For example  next Local Government Elections 2016,  next  New South Wales State Elections 2017, and the next Federal Election in 2018 leaving the next year 2019.... a rest year!

Furthermore, we need more alertness given to communicating to the community on dates of Mayoral Elections and Blacktown City Council General Election on the Annual Calendars (that are distributed to all communities). A notification sent with council rates of when the election is due that year. We need the NSW  Electoral Commission to place signs on NSW Government buildings, in our local area, confirming when the election is on in 2020. They could even post the results to community members of the current election, telling them who their elected members of Council are in their ward. Maybe adds on Television and radio will assist as well. We need to inform the community.

Also a letter could be sent from each local elected Councillor, advising the community, of their representation of being an elected Councillor in their Ward.

This is just a shortlist of what can be done, yet we know in the weeks running prior to the election, local newspapers are flooded with articles for candidates, elections subjects and issues etc. On the wider TV media, I heard about it 24 hours before Election day. They are interest in Federal and State elections and only interested in results of the Local Council elections (after the event). This image of  presenting elections to the  community needs to be changed for the better.

Labor Takes Stronghold In Blacktown City Council Elections 2016

Image result for stephen baliUnder the leadership of Mayor Stephen Bali, Labor party seem clear to get elected 2 Councilors of each Ward within Blacktown City Council Elections today. Balance would yet be determined under to the quota system. My assumption based on results so far is that the remaining candidates may be 1 Labor and 4 Liberals or 1 Labor, 3 Liberals and 1 Independent.

Labor will hold a balance of power in their own right. In Wards 4 and 5 Liberals will have a slump with final results with final results to come compared to 2012 results.  Some Independents have picked up their swinging votes as  Labor picking up a chunk of it. Liberal might pick up the 3rd candidate here after former Liberal Councillor  was not contesting the election.

In Ward 5, The Australia First Party will have almost doubled their percentage to 9.32%  (so  far) and over taken the Greens as a third Party placed result, With Labor leading this years results by an extra 1% (so far) with 59.82% majority, with the retirement of Former councilor Charlie Lowles and Independent Councillor Jacqueline Donaldson switching her candidacy to Ward 4. So far Councillor Tony Bleasedale and Brad Bunting will be elected  new Councillors

In Ward the Liberals have so far slumped down by 14% to 24% of the  vote, whilst  running third Independent Jacqueline Donaldson is on 7.27% (so far), leaving The Mayor of Blacktown City Council, Stephen Bali and also Carol Israel elected as elected Council members with a majority (so far) of 59.86%

This means that we will see a truly dedicated Jacqueline Donaldson not be elected into  Blacktown City Council, which a lot of people will miss: her hard work, follow up on community issues and raising the standard of the area.

I Always Use The Bin Because It's The Right Thing To Do - Mount Druitt - Dawson Mall - Blacktown City Council

Have you notice these clean up litter bins signs around the Hub of Mount Druitt. I think this is a great initiative to have these attractive signs with pictured different people smiling as they are disposing their rubbish.

This should be a natural thing  for everyone to do. In fact, it should at home first and carried on in the public streets.

Really, I think  Blacktown City Council, its newly elected Councillors and its Officers should promote these advertisements in public parks where there   similar bins installed and review them to ensure the signs are kept and well maintained. This is so simple messages gets across the community and the message is properly received and implemented. This could also be displayed on bins in streets and  public sporting venues.

Furthermore, when community events occur at Bowman Hall, other community halls and at 'The Rooty Hill', advertising can occur on TV large screens and  also around around walls/bins around or inside halls.

Even promotion of this on bins on at Bus Interchanges in Mount Druitt and  Blacktown as well as bins in other Train Stations within our Local Government Area.
