Step forward for NAIDOC week
Nominations are now open for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Citizen of the Year Award.
Blacktown City Mayor Stephen Bali MP encourages residents to apply before nominations close on Wednesday, 4 July.
“If you know an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander who lives or works in Blacktown City and has made an outstanding contribution to our community I strongly urge you to nominate them for the award,” Mayor Bali said.
The award will be presented during the NAIDOC week celebration on Tuesday, 10 July at Blacktown Showground.
“The celebration will be a fun filled day from 11am to 4pm featuring indigenous performances, free children activities including face painting, circus activities and a free barbeque.”
The annual Blackfulla’s Got Talent, So You Mob Think You Can Dance Idol Competition will also take place to encourage local young Aboriginal people to go on stage and share their talent with the community.
“NAIDOC Week is a celebration of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across various fields,” Mayor Bali said.
“It is a privilege and a source of great pride to be the Mayor of a City with one of the largest urban Aboriginal communities in the State.”
