Mental Health Should Be A Prioity To All Community Members - Mt druitt St Marys Standard!

It is a subject that is passed in conversation, raised once or twice in election time and hardly mentioned over our dinner tables.

Sometimes some people do not know how to deal with life and its issues, with dealing on a day to day basis. Most of the time it is suffering some type of depression and not knowing which direction to take. People can turn to families, yet maybe scared or afraid to openly state their feelings to families, in case they get a negative reaction and little or no support. Then they may turn to friends for support and some may not even have friends.

The main this is to prevent any intention of suicide, not wants anybody to do this as when somebody does this the families and friends around ask what they could've done to prevent this or where was I if they approached us, why didn't they approach us. The shift of blame moves to people around the person who commits the suicide.

Firstly, life is a gift given to everyone to be enjoyed though high and low times, in low times we should seek support and high times we should support to those around and in our lives. No one's life is perfect, not even mine. We all have gone through a type of depression that I call, 'sadness'. This could be because of not achieving high academical results, not being in the eyes of our parents of their stance, loss of a family/friend life, breaking of relationships, friends and many others as well.

When this happens I search in my heart for the goodness of life and pray to God for support. If need be, a tear may drop or two and that is normal and moments later, I pick myself up do something else, speak to someone and try to placed my life into a high. A smile will replace teardrops in seconds.

When my mother passed away a few years ago, I actually had gone to bereavement counseling and it certainly did myself so good! Some form of counseling outside family/ friends may be  good for anyone to use.

As a community, we need to be aware of any form of mental illness assistance for the people around us, that may need it. Support, comfort and understanding is required from us as this issue grows within our community.

So now, we heard there is an increase of suicidal incident patients entering Mount Druitt hospital, maybe authorities need to ensure we have the correct field of experts to deal with them, with compassion and mercy.
