Referring to a recent suggestion by a Mount Druitt community member to use a PA system announcement to tell library users to quieten down at Mount Druitt Library, we have a further solution.
Speaking to a spokesperson from Blacktown City Council, there is no PA announcement system installed. Currently it does happen that as soon as school children arrive after school and study, there is a lot of talking between a majority of students and the library is noisey. The Council staff need to approach the library users and ask them nicely to quieten down. The Council spokesperson advised the only way to really resolve this is to have another level of the library used for library users who want to use more meeting rooms, which assists in study discussions for students. After 4 years of the new library being opening, it is a widely used resource that benefits the community. It is amazing to think that we are now looking at possible extensions of the library.
In Blacktown, Max Webber library, it is a two level library which caters for the Blacktown and wider community. With Mount Druitt's increasing population, the planners of Blacktown City Council may have to look at the nearer future (rather than the later), working out how to convert the Mount Druitt hub to a two story library as well as maintaining community meeting rooms!
On a separate note, I have noticed today that security at Mount Druitt library has been tightened at the front entrance. This may be as there may have incidents in the past that has caused this to happen. Personally, I think this is a good idea as libraries need to quiet and peaceful environments.
