Today, as I was waiting a for a train on platform 1, Mount Druitt train station and as the train was a little late arriving at and this young tall man was receiving a call about being job interviewed.
About 30-40 other commuters were listening as the platform became crowded around 10.30am, for the late 10.15am train to Hornsby. I don't know if this young man was loud because he got excited about being interviewed or whether that was his normal voice volume. In fact, I did speak to him on the train afterwards and his voice was a little bit more lower pitched.
It is amazing that with the technology we have this can be done. That is, potential employers contact Mount Druitt community members to interview and employ them.
This young man had recently moved from Newcastle back home to Mount Druitt, he left his previous job on his own accord 2 weeks ago. He here was being asked questions applying as 'Chef', as he was answering each question politely, he sold himself in getting a 'look in' this job. The only thing he lacked was trade qualification but he made this up by saying he had 7 years experience and was committed to working shift work, offering and negotiating on his hours of pay from $20-25 per hour.
The best ting that I personally like about the conversation was when he offered to come in to that employer (a major hotel near the city) and said, 'Try myself out for one day, if you like me keep me if not let me go!' Whether that was paid or not offer to the employer was exceptional!
It was so pleasing and educational for others to hear his professionalism in advising that he can't work Saturdays as his availability of time to work, flexibility for shift work and negotiating his wages.
He advised myself that all he did was advertise his job on Gumtree website and that was his forth call! Amazing young man and this proves that if people try hard, they will get the work they need to get! Brilliant young man and we hope that others learn from this and success comes their way.
