Politeness Are We Losing It?

I can remember the days, when I got up from public transport seats, to let any ladies sit down and old men sit down and I also remember the old, 'Please' and 'Thank you', where do I hear or see these things happen, hardly ever.

I even hardly here of it in customer service roles... what can be done to change the perception feel. If more people were polite the world would be a better place. It seem we are losing the touch of politeness - I don't even see these words in text messages.
