To me it makes sense. They even offered these members to rejoin and be active. Active membership in Face Book, we know is publishing posts, links, stories, sharing of information, community announcements and community concerns for improvements: inclusive of pictures and videos. Also, an active member may just share posts to other Face Book Group/s, if they feel it will suit that audience and grow the audience on their current Face Book Group. An active member can post a live video, share their emotions, produce polls, sell something.
All members don't have to do all of the above or even one of the above, but showing interest is important. The minimum requirement Face Book asks for Face Book Members is simply to view posts. This shows interest. Face Book records when you view posts and if you simply view posts, you remain an active member.
As one Admin for 'whyilovemountdruitt' Face Book Page, losing just over 10 percent of membership isn't good, so I have changed the way the way we accept new members by adding the following clause:
We ask that for you to remain as a member of this Face Book Page Group, that you visit us regularly; otherwise Face Book (Not Admins) will remove you for non activity.
We also encourage posting, comments and
recommendations, suggestions, improvements and enhanced conversations that
should be known of our area or concerning as well.
If anyone has any other ideas, please assist us to maintain our membership and grow it as it has been doing.
The good news is, since these members has been removed by Face Book, we have gained 4 new members up nearly 2%. So, I hope that every current member also follows this active membership minimum requirement of simply viewing our Face Book Group. If you encourage others to join, explain to them what the minimum requirement of being an 'Active Member' means, from Face Book.
This will mean that Face Book Groups can not be set up and then remain inactive - I would assume. This may affect other local face book groups admins as well.
