We have lost the delivery of newspapers and online news from two important local newspaper. The Mount Druitt- St Marys Standard and St. Marys - Mount Druitt Star - they have been around our area for decades. They have merged to other local newspapers outside of Mount Druitt area,
The local newspapers were delivered door to door or if not delivered available at local News Agents. They brought local true news and sometimes headlines of good news true stories live, so we live in being interested in our local news or items of interest.
When they closed doors with newspapers being delivered and then their online service - it now leaves it to local social media to take over the 'local news', interest stories or even community improvements to take on this role. There many local Mount Druitt Face Book Groups promoting their own news, topics of conversations or members with concerned interests from lost dogs, to people of concern, advertising community events, local business and advertising to promoting certain activities around the area.
Also the other local media we have, we may tend to forget is community local radio stations. They tend to broadcast in a different way. It is hard for them to be a local news representative as they are representing our diverse community with different & interesting radio programs. Yet they may broadcast current national news. The range of broadcast programs from language programs like Samoan, Irish, Cook Islands, religious and music from the past etc.
So what local community radio stations are in our area - directly none. Outside our area, yes, we can receive the following broadcasts:

Google's meaning of community radio stations:
Community radio is a radio service offering a third model of radio broadcasting in addition to commercial and public broadcasting. Community stations serve geographic communities and communities of interest.
So Community Radio Stations can be a vital service in a local community that can reach out out to local communities, especially ours that has no specialised paper media anymore. This is the time to support our local radio stations by listening, promoting or even participating in any one of them.
Let's have your feed back on this - have any of you heard about these radio stations. If you have, do you listen to any programs? What is your feed back on these local community radio stations? Is there any local radio radio stations you prefer?
Do we need a local community radio station in Mount Druitt area?
