Registrations are now open for the 12th Westlink M7 Blacktown Running Festival, one of Australia’s few “off road” marathons.

Mayor of Blacktown City Stephen Bali encouraged everyone to get involved.

“There is a race for everyone from the full marathon for professional athletes, to 5km and 2km walks for families and kids just having a go,” Mayor Bali said.

“The courses start and finish at Blacktown International Sportspark, which means this is one of the few long races where participants arrive and leave from the one location.”

2017 marks the 12th year the marathon has been held on the
Westlink M7 shared pathway, making it one of the few traffic-
free marathons in Australia, Mayor Bali said.

“It means runners have a smooth running event without
having to worry about kerbs, gutters or traffic,” he said.

“It also means that motorists are not inconvenienced by road
closures,” he said.

“This is partly why the event such a success; runners from all
over Sydney and NSW gear up to compete every year.

“There is a group of runners who have competed in the 11
running festivals staged to date and we expect them to be
there again this year.”

The
marathon, half marathon and 10km race are all
IAAF/AIMS Certified Accurate and the event is a member of
AIMS (Association of International Marathons & Distance
Races).
