We spoke in the past, about IPART's ( Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal) recommendation to the NSW Government on public transport fares on rail, bus, light rail and ferries within Greater Sydney and other areas in New South Wales.

So the y are recommending a dramatic increase in fares, especially after the free travel after 8 trips - now they want to place a maximum 50 percent increase on remaining - trips - which does not send a possible message to promote public transport with IPART.
Increase to Opal Gold cards fro. $2.50 to $3.60 per day is also nearly a 50 percent increase to commuters who do need to have fares increased: unemployed looking for work and pensioners who are living on minimum incomes, most of them struggling.
IPART wants commuters to bear the cost increases, not tax payers. This is because commuters include single parents, pensioners and the unemployed that are not paying tax because of their private circumstances.
'What Cheeses me off' - is that the current Liberal NSW Government promoted the free fares after 8 trips as one of the benefits to entice commuters to purchase Opal Cards. Now they are saying, 'You've got the Opal Card, now we can do what we want to with fares'!
If you want commuters to pay extra on 8 free fares charge 4.2% on the not increase fares by 50%. If you want pensioners to pay extra charges 4.2% extra and not not increase by nearly 50%! Also the current inflation rates are low - why increase these fares, that's why interest rates are stable!
Let our local State Members take a stand on these fare increases!
