This is the type of Opal Ticket I was hoping would have been launched at first, yet just be wary as I believe the tickets available at Opal Retailers may not have the same affect if you lose an Opal Card, with Opal. I do need clarification from Opal as I'm not sure how a replaced card goes - it could be as simple as going back to an Opal retailer and waiting for your Opal Card to be posted out or they will cancel your Opal card and issue you with a new card immediately.
With On-line Opal cards - you can request a new Opal Card (if lost) and be posted out a new one. It the meantime, you will have to purchase ordinary return tickets.
One of my family members is using the Opal Card on buses, is finding already there is small savings, more in convenience in cash handling and slightly quicker trips, although not everyone is using Opal cards on buses, as yet. This is because Pensioners and Senior Cards, will be launched later in the year.
In NSW, we are behind the times:-
- In Queensland they have 'GoCard' under Translink
- In Victoria they have 'MyKi' under Public Transport Victoria
- In ACT they have 'Myway' under ACT Transport for Canberra
- IN South Australia they have 'MetroCard' under Adelaide Metro
Opal being a gem should be an easier way to ride in public transport in and out of Sydney region, it is the way forward for the future!
