The politics will rage in the media. But it will be non-partisan local communities becoming and staying organised that will mean we can win together.
It will be a long fight, it will be protracted and it will be won conversation by conversation.
The good news is that, despite the distractions in Canberra, over 80% of Australians support penalty rates. They recognise that the weekend still means something in this country and that Sundays are a day of rest, recreation, family, friends and for many, worship.Save Our Weekend recognises that 'common time' is important no matter how much you earn and that we are not just economic beings.
Organising our communities to Save Our Weekend isn't just about today's campaign. Organising local leaders, building community relationships and durable active teams means that we can stop future incursions to our work/life balance.
It is also about our engagement in democracy. We do not have to be victims of policies from Canberra or Macquarie St. We can shape those policies if we are smart, disciplined, organised, persistent and consistent.
At our first session expect to learn new organising skills and about the campaign; meet diverse allies; and commit to taking action in your community.
