The Mount Druitt Reconciliation walk, is a way we can all say sorry, to the traditional land owners for white people (and now other races) living and taking over land. Some
would call it an invasion and in history it is called 'Australian Discovery' by the first landing in 1770.If you follow geographical maps the world, the human eye can plainly see all lands of the world were in past times of not recent, were interconnected. Knowing this I think in early history the Aboriginal people were connected into the Indian sub-continent and with the 'Continental Drift' their land was then Aboriginal and they had lived primitive lives ever since, until the 'Discovery of Australia' by white English speaking people.
You can check on this link for NSW Reconciliation Organisation and you will note it commenced around the same time as the First Mount Druitt Reconciliation Walk. I have walked the Mount Druitt Reconciliation Walk three times. I have enjoyed it and felt very happy about support an event like like this.
As an individual I do believe and support local businesses, local improvements in our community. Without being harsh, we have had a population of people that migrated mainly from the Eastern/Northern Suburbs of Sydney. They could not afford expensive properties in those regions to purchase, were mostly working class community that could afford only cheap housing in out Western Sydney, Mount Druitt. They had their children educated and working within the community, that may have moved out of the area due to lifestyle changes. People made it their home and have seen Mount Druitt grow to what it is today.
We also had a lot of the community members that were living in NSW Housing Commission or called NSW Housing Department homes (although the ratio of NSW Housing Department homes to privately owned houses/properties has dropped in recent times. Then we have the area that has the highest population of indigenous Australians living in Blacktown Local Government area, mostly in the Mount Druitt area. I take my hats off to them!
If you weren't there last Saturday at the 17th Walk, mark it in your calendar for next year!
