A Sudanese refugee and a leading Sydney businessman will be the special guest speakers at Blacktown City Council’s budget information sessions next week.
Council is hosting two ‘Budget Insight’ forums on Tuesday, 29 May, one is a business focused breakfast and the second is a community focused forum. Both will give the Blacktown community a chance to hear first-hand about Council’s plans.
Blacktown City Mayor, Stephen Bali MP said: “At these forums, our residents and people from business, sporting and community groups will hear about Council’s plans for the future as we launch our biggest budget yet – over $620 million.”
Also speaking at both sessions will be Mayor Stephen Bali MP and Council’s General Manager Kerry Robinson.
“Our keynote speakers for each event will highlight some of the special qualities of this growing community. We will also present our plans for the City as Our Blacktown 2036 strategy rolls out.”
The community forum guest speaker is Anyier Yuol, the 2018 Blacktown Woman of the Year, a Masters student, community worker and a successful model.
An orphan refugee from Sudan, Ms Yuol has lived in Blacktown for more than 10 years and works on a refugee program while studying a Masters of International Development in Refugees and Displacement.
“This community has been a place I drew from while I was growing up, and now I can give back to the community to help inspire and motivate them,” she said.
The Budget Insight for our Community Forum will be held on Tuesday, 29 May, 7pm -9pm, at The Nirimba Room, Civic Centre, Campbell Street, Blacktown.
Businessman and the developer responsible for Blacktown’s tallest building, Altitude Towers, Rob Cassab, is the guest speaker for the business breakfast.
Mr Cassab and his business partner, Ben Suttor, are co-directors of Sphere Developments.
“Blacktown is a great place to live and work in. I believe it is ready for more commercial growth, and am excited to be part of this journey,” Mr Cassab said.
The Budget Business Insight Breakfast Forum will be held on Tuesday, 29 May, 7am – 8.30am, also at The Nirimba Room, Civic Centre, Campbell Street, Blacktown.
