An oasis of sweet treats will emerge again in the Blacktown CBD for the Sweet Indulgence Dessert Festival on Thursday, 24 May.
Mount-watering treats to delight those with a sweet tooth will include extravagant milkshakes, crème brulee, traditional Croatian sweets, cupcakes, gelatos, loaded doughnuts, cronuts, fairy floss, Hungarian chimney cakes, caramel popcorn, churros and a range of French pastries.
The celebration of decadent desserts forms part of the week-long Blacktown City Festival.
Blacktown City Mayor Stephen Bali MP said: “Sweet Indulgence brings together over 20 of Sydney’s finest dessert vendors for an evening of all things sweet and delicious.
“This Festival gives people a chance to try some of Sydney’s best bakers and ice cream maker’s right here in Blacktown,” said Mayor Stephen Bali.
“Dessert lovers can indulge in everything from rich, Spanish churros to pillow-soft doughnuts, crepes, doughnuts, mouth-watering cupcakes, silky smooth gelato and chocolate fondue.
“These mouth-watering treats can all be enjoyed after taking a spin on our synthetic ice skating rink in the Village Green.”
Among the many stall holders will be Thomas Scott from Red Chef Pastries in Seven Hills, whose delicious cone-shaped Hungarian chimney cakes will see people queuing up for a taste of four different flavours.
“I’ve been a chef for more than 16 years, and my passion is desserts and pastries. I started making these desserts two years ago and they have been very popular at different festivals and events.”
“Our dessert has a brioche cone-shaped dough filled with either butterscotch, lemon meringue, mocha or vanilla gelato. It’s great to see people enjoying these tasty treats,” Mr Scott said.
Also showcasing their desserts are Tara and Nic Poelaert from Choux Pattisserie. The couple, who are former restaurant owners, say they put a modern twist on the traditional eclairs.
“We use fruit, berries or nuts as a natural flavour base and add different fillings and toppings such as chocolate mousse, creme patisserie, and flavoured cheesecake.
“Our desserts are designed to have a balance of flavour, be light and suit different taste buds,” Tara Poelaert said.
Over 2000 people are expected to attend the Sweet Indulgence Dessert Festival on Thursday, 24 May at the Village Green and Civic Plaza in Blacktown’s CBD.
Civic Lane will be closed between 3-9pm and some shops on Flushcombe Road will have vehicular access via Campbell Street.
Blacktown City Festival starts with the hugely popular Medieval Fayre at Doonside on 19 and 20 May and ends on a high note a week later with the Streets Alive Festival on 26 May.
“This is a spectacular festival, and I encourage everyone to join in the many events we have planned across festival week,” said Mayor Bali.
“There will be something for all ages and interests – a comedy night at the Rooty Hill RSL, ice skating on the Village Green, an international jousting competition at NSW’s biggest Medieval Fayre, and a PJ Masks Kids Concert just to name a few.
“I’m looking forward to the fun and festivities and extend a warm invitation to everyone in Blacktown City and beyond to enjoy the various activities on offer as we celebrate the 2018 Blacktown City Festival.”
