Blacktown City Council is inviting local grandparents and their families to celebrate Blacktown Grandparents’ Day on Saturday, 11 November.

The celebration, at Max Webber Library Function Centre, includes music, dance, storytelling and afternoon tea.

Mayor of Blacktown City Councillor Stephen Bali said Blacktown Grandparents’ Day Celebration reflects the city’s rich cultural and intergenerational diversity.

“Blacktown is one of the most multicultural cities in Australia, being home to people of all ages and backgrounds,” he said.
“In particular, the contribution older people of diverse backgrounds make to our community is immense, which is why we are hosting a unique celebration to honour their input.

“Blacktown Grandparents’ Day will have all the hallmarks that make our City so great: excellent food, quality entertainment and an inclusive, community atmosphere.”

The celebrations feature the popular Mount Druitt Indigenous Children’s Choir, line dancers from Blacktown Older Women’s Network and Mount Druitt Senior Citizens Club, the Older Women’s Network Theatre Group, and a cultural performance by Sri Om Care Seniors’ Group.

A highlight of the event will be a performance from the Band of All Ages, a group comprising singers, dancers and musicians of all ages.

The performance will be the culmination of workshops led by Linda Marr.

Guests will also enjoy hearing stories from Blacktown Libraries Life Stories program. The program celebrates the contribution that older people make to our lives by inviting Blacktown City residents to record an interview with a grandparent or a friend.

NSW Grandparents’ Day is an initiative of the NSW Government that provides older people with opportunities to connect with their families and communities.
