Whalan residents have thanked Blacktown City Council for bringing the monthly “Have your Say” forum to town.
Well-known Whalan resident and community volunteer Ivy Roberson said: “It’s great to see the Council come to us and hear what we have to say.”
“It has been a pleasure watching today’s meeting and seeing what you intend to invest in Whalan,” said fellow Whalan resident Muna Rahman.
The forum was held on Wednesday 8 November at Whalan Community Centre and the audience of 40 heard presentations on upgrades to parks and reserves in the area, and on Council’s community safety programs.
Issues raised included the future of an unused commercial building in the suburb and support for local community groups.
Mayor of Blacktown City Councillor Stephen Bali said: “Last night was a great example of Council working with the community to hear what is important to people who live and work in the neighbourhood.
“Council spent a significant amount of money upgrading Whalan Reserve to a world class sporting and recreational facility, but it was refreshing to hear from a resident that more seating will benefit those people who use the walking track,” he said.
“This level of engagement is unique. More and more people are seeing the value of the community forums.
“We are also having a special community safety forum next weekend, and I encourage residents and ratepayers to join us for a free sausage sizzle and take advantage of speaking to emergency service representatives.
“This is your opportunity to speak directly to emergency services representatives about safety concerns,” Mayor Bali said.
Forum details: Saturday, 18 November, 2pm – 4pm at Woodcroft Lakes Reserve, Antique Crescent, Woodcroft.
