Blacktown City Council’s latest annual report has won a highly prestigious Gold Award at the recent Australian Reporting Awards, held in Melbourne.

“This is the second year in a row Blacktown City Council’s annual report has won a gong,” the Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Stephen Bali said.

“The 2014-15 report won bronze and the 15-16 report won gold,” Mayor Bali said.

The Australian Reporting Awards (ARA) are highly contested, and Blacktown City Council’s report beat off entries from Russia, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Australia, he said.
“At Blacktown City Council we have a motto: “Building the Best”, and winning an award like this shows we are well on our way to doing this,” Mayor Bali said.

According to the ARA, to receive a Gold Award, “a report must demonstrate overall excellence in annual reporting and provide high quality coverage of most aspects of the ARA criteria; full disclosure of key aspects of the core business; and outstanding disclosures in major areas.”

“A report that achieves a Gold Award is a model for other organisations to follow,” it says.

Producing and designing the award was a joint effort by Council’s Marketing and Communications and Corporate Finance teams, Mayor Bali said.

“I particularly congratulate Marketing and Communications Officer Bianca Devine and Financial Planning Manager Michael Mamo for bringing the project to fruition.

“Bianca managed the artwork and design process and Michael and his team collated the material and worked to present financial data in an interesting and informative way.
“The overall effect obviously impressed the judges and it is a tribute to the way Blacktown City Council is now communicating with not only residents and ratepayers, but also at an international standard,” he said.
