Another local newspaper has closed. News Local has ceased to publish the Mt Druitt - St Marys Standard. This is the second local paper to close. The Fairfax published Mt Druitt Star ceased last year.
St Marys news is now covered by the Penrith Press while Mt Druitt news is covered by the Blacktown Advocate.
News Local has also closed its office in High Street, Penrith, and centralised all operations to Parramatta.
The independently produced Nepean News and its sister paper Western News are the only papers serving the Mt Druitt and St Marys areas. Both papers are published from St Clair.

780 Bus To Tregear Should Be Re-routed - Mount Druitt Commuters Improvement Group Inc.- Daily Telegraph

We have reported how important it is to provide essential services, as well as bus services to support commuters within our community. This issue has been dragging since 2009 and yet a band aid solution was provided called the 'Shopper Hopper 674', which is less frequently serviced by buses, when is was properly serviced before November 2009.

Our people need to be heard and the bureaucrats, need to live in this area and understand the realty of why proper bus services are required in the west part of Whalan. Here is their story from the Daily Telegraph:

Blacktown City Council - Media Release - Council Praised For Colebee Pop-Up

5 October 2018

The first-ever Blacktown City Council community pop-up session proved to be popular among residents and shoppers in Colebee last Saturday.
Blacktown City Mayor Stephen Bali MP said: “This was a good opportunity to meet some of the residents and hear their concerns and aspirations for the area.
“It was good to also see young people, new residents and more established residents approach Councillors and myself to ask questions and hear about Council’s programs.”
More than 35 people had conversations with Mayor Bali and Councillors during the two-hour pop-up session. Information was available on events, programs, garbage collection, road safety, library services and Council’s transformational projects.
Concerns raised by people included the impact on traffic from construction in the area, access to the local dog parks and garbage disposal.
“It was clear that people enjoyed the chance to talk to their Councillors one-on-one,” Mayor Bali said.
“This is a great way to engage with our local residents in a relaxed atmosphere at a convenient location.”
The next Council pop-up session will be held on Saturday 13 October at Seven Hills Shopping Plaza near Red Lea Chickens.

Will Busways 780 Tregear 'Only' Bus Fix The Shortfall Of 674 Bus Services Required For Whalan Commuters?

This has been an on going issue for years. Ever since I was President and Secretary of the Mount Druitt Commuters Improvement Group Inc. The simple solution is for the 780 bus to travel into the Gasmatta/Samaria Streets of Whalan using the 'Tregaear Only' bus.

When we lost 3 bus services in 2009 and received 2 buses services back out of 3 lost bus services from the NSW Government, that was a big win for  our community. The 674 bus service was introduced as a 'Shopper Hopper' bus service: Few and far between services  have been permitted by the NSW Government for Busways to supply to supply these limited bus services since that time.

Whenever I have travelled on this bus services , it definitely shows that it is a more than required bus service.

Here is a video from Christina on  how she struggles to  seek more bus services to make commuters life easy, in her part of our Whalan community. I do suggest that you view this video and supply your comments on whether these members of our community should be properly services with buses. The video has been produced by the  Mount Druitt Commuters Improvement Group Inc and have been provide permission to publish it.
