Blacktown City Council - Media Release - Multi-Million Dollar Road Upgrade

MEDIA RELEASE

05 June 2018

Blacktown City Council has begun a $31.6 million upgrade to widen Boundary Road and McCulloch Street between Schofields Road and Cranbourne Street, Riverstone.
Blacktown City Mayor Stephen Bali MP said the upgrade was a vital infrastructure project for the community.
“The multi-million dollar upgrade will result in the transformation of Boundary Road/McCulloch Street from a two-lane rural road to a four-lane major urban road which includes an unmarked parking lane and driving lane,” Mayor Bali said.
“Boundary Road and McCulloch Street is a major road providing access to local streets, and a key flood evacuation route.
“When complete, it will improve traffic flow, unlock land for housing development and accommodate future traffic growth in the area.”
The upgrade was made possible after Blacktown City Council successfully lobbied the NSW Government for a $58.5 million grant to upgrade Hambledon Road and widen Boundary Road/McCulloch Street.
Funding for the road upgrades is from the Government’s Restart NSW Fund designed to deliver high priority infrastructure projects.
The Boundary Road/McCulloch Street project is expected to be completed by December 2020.

Blacktown City Council - Media Release - Tails Wag At New Dog Park

  MEDIA RELEASE

4 June 2018

Tails were left wagging following the provision of a new dog park in Ridgeview Reserve, Riverstone.
Blacktown City Mayor Stephen Bali MP said the dog park was a great addition to the community.
“An off-leash dog park is a great facility which will directly benefit the community,” Mayor Bali said.
“It’s an encouragement for the pet owners to go out for a walk, meet fellow dog owners and be part of the community.”
Blacktown City Council matched the $29,250 received by Riverstone MP Kevin Conolly to fund the $58,500 project.
“The off-leash area in Ridgeview Park is the twelfth dog park we have in Blacktown City,” Mayor Bali said.
“Council is keen on providing the amenities needed within the community and providing facilities such as this ensures we are continuing to meet the needs of residents.
Kevin Conolly MP said: “The NSW Government’s Community Building Partnership program provides an opportunity to support worthwhile community infrastructure like this off-leash area.
“Pet owners and their dogs will be able to enjoy this facility and the community will benefit from the fact that owners have a safe place to exercise their dogs.
“Council staff have done a great job in designing the park to meet user’s needs.”

Blacktown City Council - Media Release - Chamber Wrong About Great Wall Of Riverstone

MEDIA RELEASE
Description: Description: BCC Logo 2007 Ver - Coloured - Outline Text

29 June 2017

Blacktown City Council Mayor has slammed the Riverstone Chamber of Commerce’s attack on Council over the proposed Garfield Road overpass.

“The Chamber has come out stating Council’s Riverstone Master Plan proposal ignores Garfield Road and the Main Street which has established businesses,” Mayor of Blacktown City Stephen Bali said.

“What they fail to say is Council supported the community and opposed the State Government’s proposed Garfield Road overpass.

“Council wants a vibrant town centre, not one that has the great wall of Riverstone running through it.

“Council takes planning for our community very seriously and we strongly refute comments by the Chamber that Council made an ‘assumption’ about the rail crossing on Garfield Road will be an overpass.

“Council does not work on assumptions. The Garfield Road overpass is part of the Roads and Maritime Services long-term plan for the area.”

‘All you’ve got to do is check the RMS website,” he said.

“We cannot ignore RMS plans when designing the Riverstone Master Plan,” Mayor Bali said.

“We would prefer the Chamber worked with Council to continue opposing the RMS proposal, rather than seeking to blame us for a NSW Government decision,” Mayor Bali said.
“The Chamber needs to lobby local Liberal MP Kevin Conolly to have the Garfield Road overpass scrapped.”

“We understand local residents and business owners are concerned about the impact the overpass will have on their daily lives and livelihoods.

“Council stood by the community by opposing the controversial Garfield Road overpass, but once the RMS decided on the overpass option we had to act quickly to plan for the Riverstone town centre,” Mayor Bali said.

The Riverstone Master Plan was on exhibition in 2016 to give residents a chance to share their concerns and ideas with Council.

“This Master Plan will revitalise the town centre, bring new community facilities and boost the business precinct of the Riverstone area.

“Pedestrian safety and economic growth in the Riverstone area are priorities for Blacktown City Council’s Riverstone Master Plan.

“A town centre should have good pedestrian access. It should not be impacted by a proposed 4-lane traffic overpass,” Mayor Bali said.

“We regret that some business owners along Garfield Road area will be impacted by the RMS decision, but there is simply no practical option to have businesses on the southern side of Garfield Road.

“Council staff and Councillors responded to residents’ and business owners’ concerns and worked with the community during the exhibition period.

“Sadly the Chamber has ignored Council’s efforts to represent the community, take their ideas on board and respond to their concerns,” Mayor Bali said.

Blacktown City Council Media Release - Riverstone Has Another Say

                           Riverstone Has Another Say

Blacktown City Council is staging a second community forum in Riverstone on Thursday 1 June so the residents and ratepayers who missed out last week can have their say.
The second forum will be held at the 300-seat capacity Jack Lang Auditorium at Riverstone High School at 7pm.
“Council’s monthly Have Your Say forums are proving to be increasingly popular and the turnout at the first Riverstone forum exceeded all expectations,” the Mayor of Blacktown City, Stephen Bali said.
More than 150 people had to be turned away from the previous forum, held on Monday 8 May at the Riverstone Senior Citizen’s Centre when it reached its legal capacity.
Blacktown City Council General Manager Kerry Robinson said: “Thanks to everyone who attended the previous forum and for their understanding that we needed to make a decision for everyone’s safety.
“We look forward to seeing you at the forum on Thursday 1 June.”
The issue of suburb names in the area was strongly discussed, and as a result of the feedback the exhibition period for the suburb name changes has been extended by two months to 31 August, 2017.
“The second forum will be a repeat performance,” Mayor Bali said.
“At the previous Riverstone forum I promised to run the whole program again so people can have their voices heard.
“So we are coming back to make sure we hear you.
“Changes to peoples’ neighbourhoods’ have a big impact on their lives, and as a Council we do not have the power to change everything, but we want to hear your concerns and work with the community to help you through this transition,” Mayor Bali said.
At the second forum, residents will again hear about the proposal to name the 11 new suburbs in the North West Growth Centre, and have the opportunity to make a submission on the names.
Mayor Bali said: “This proposal would result in a total of 18 suburbs across the Growth Centre, representing a population of over 150,000 people.
“The new suburbs will be created alongside the existing suburbs of Colebee, Marsden Park, Schofields, Shanes Park, Riverstone, Rouse Hill and Vineyard, which are proposed to be retained.
This forum gives residents in Ward 1 a chance to engage with Mayor Stephen Bali, Ward Councillors Jess Diaz, Chris Quilkey and Dr Moninder Singh.
Council’s message to all residents is: “Be involved, be informed and be heard”.
Council is running two Have Your Say forums in June:  the repeat Riverstone forum and the scheduled Ward 5 form at Oakhurst Neighbourhood Centre, 51 Standish Avenue, Oakhurst on Wednesday, 14 June starting at 7pm.
Forum details
Riverstone – 7pm, Thursday 1 June, at the Riverstone High School, 71 McCulloch Street, Riverstone.
Oakhurst – 7pm, Wednesday 14 June at the Oakhurst Neighbourhood Centre, 51 Standish Avenue, Oakhurst .
