Blacktown City Council - Media Release - Trees for Peace – Celebrating Ghandi’s 150th Birthday

Hundreds of trees will be planted on Saturday, June 1 to 
celebrate World Environment Day 2019 and to 
commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi.

Blacktown City Mayor Stephen Bali MP is encouraging community members of all ages to join the tree planting at Harpers Bush Reserve, Reservoir Road, Blacktown.

“This event is a great opportunity to head outdoors and do something good for the environment,” Mayor Bali said.

“It’s a great event that not only celebrates World Environment Day but also commemorates the global messenger of non-violence, Gandhi.”

The free event is hosted by Blacktown City Council, Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur Australia and the Consulate General of India.

“We are humbled to recognise such an important global figure in our city, and are honoured to recognise our Indian community and their leaders in this way.”

Plants, materials, entertainment and light refreshments will be provided on the day and participants are advised to wear closed shoes, a hat, long pants and long sleeved shirts.
