Close to 1000 residents celebrated the opening of a Captain Cook inspired playground at Endeavour Park on Saturday, 2 September.
Blacktown City Council opened the new $1.5 million park at Kings Langley with a free family fun day that included a sausage sizzle, jumping castle and a roving pirate.

Morris Daniel from Kings Langley said his sons, Isaac and Aaron, had been looking forward to the park opening for months.
“We’ve been coming by every weekend and looking at it,” he said.
“They’ve been hanging out for it and were pretty excited this morning when we arrived.”

Kings Langley local Tracey-Lee Fitzgerald, who attended the park opening with her children, Lucas and Talia, said she thought the playground was fantastic.

“My kids have been so excited and they are really happy to have a new park and new equipment to play on,” she said.

The park opening was attended by dignitaries, including Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Stephen Bali; Federal Member for Greenway, Michelle Rowland; and State Member for Seven Hills, Mark Taylor.

“Looking around at the huge crowd here today you can see how important this neighbourhood park is to the community,” Mayor Bali said.

“I thank every one of you for spending hours with Council working out what how much and what type of equipment you wanted for Endeavour Park.

“This park is your design, and it was your participation that has made this one of the best parks in the region.”

The Endeavour Park design, completed by Fiona Robbe Landscape Architects, includes design features that honour James Cook’s voyage to Australia on his ship, the Endeavour.

These features include a sandpit in the shape of Tahiti, swings that look like boat sails and a goat-shaped children’s ride that pays tribute to the animal that journeyed on the Endeavour.

“It has been an epic journey getting to this point and Council has done it justice,” Ms Robbe said.

“There were many changes but Council in the end said ‘that’s the vision, let’s do it,’ so how awesome is that.”

Kings Langley residents Aaron 5, Isaac 8, and dad Morris Daniel, play on the equipment.
