Blacktown City Council - Media Release - Ready To Play On New Equipment

Quakers Hill and Lalor Park residents are enjoying the

chance to slide, climb and swing with their new and improved parks.

George Alder Reserve, Quakers Hill, and Thomas Kelly Reserve, Lalor Park, each received a $120,000 upgrade. Federal Member for Greenway, Michelle Rowland helped complete the package with $7,000 for each park through the Stronger Communities Grant Program.

Blacktown City Mayor Stephen Bali MP said the playgrounds are vital for our community.

“The playgrounds contribute to the positive lifestyle of a community and are valuable spaces for children to learn and play.”

Ms Rowland said: “It’s wonderful to see these local upgrades providing great community spaces for families.”

Council’s Access Advisory Committee played a role in ensuring the Thomas Kelly playground was accessible for all.

“Thomas Kelly Reserve has an integrated footpath to the play space ensuring all abilities have access, and the playground equipment suits various ages and is educational,” Mayor Bali said.

“The equipment at George Alder Reserve has also been well received by the community and includes a new swing set, multi-play unit with a double slide, climbing rocks, net panel and a spinner.”

Doonside locals are enjoying a new and improved playground in their suburb after Doonside Heights Park received a $113,000 upgrade.

Blacktown City Mayor Stephen Bali MP said this Doonside playground is one of many playgrounds to receive a facelift as part of Council’s ongoing renewal program.

“Playgrounds are vital to our community. They contribute to our lifestyle, and provide valuable spaces for children to play and learn,” Mayor Bali said.

“Blacktown City has recognised this importance by allocating funding to upgrades for several parks across the city every year, including at Doonside Heights Park.”

Council undertook a consultation workshop with Crawford Public School students and consulted with the surrounding community for the Doonside Heights Park.

“Community views played a significant role in designing the playground and choosing the equipment,” Mayor Bali said.

“The park features a range of equipment including a flying fox, pod swing, carousel, swing set, springers and a trampoline.

George Alder Reserve in Quakers Hill, Thomas Kelly Street Park in Lalor Park, Prospect Park in Prospect, Azzopardi Street Park in Glendenning and Willmot Reserve in Willmot, will all receive upgrades in the coming months.

Blacktown City Council is upgrading six playgrounds across the City as part of a $790,000 improvement project.  

The playgrounds are:

·        George Alder Reserve, Quakers Hill

·        Thomas Kelly Street Park, Lalor Park

·        Prospect Park, Prospect

·        Azzopardi Street Park, Glendenning

·        Doonside Heights Park, Doonside 

·        Willmot Reserve, Willmot.

Mayor of Blacktown City Stephen Bali said: “these six playgrounds will provide valuable places for children of varying ages and abilities to play and learn”. 

“Playgrounds help bring the community together, improve our quality of life and allow for a range of skill development for our children. 

“Blacktown City recognises their importance by allocating funding to build new and improved play spaces for our community.

“Construction work on the playgrounds is expected to begin in the coming months.”

Mayor Bali said the community was consulted on the playground upgrades, with resident comments from completed online surveys informing the designs.

“I thank everyone who had their say as part of the community consultation and worked with Council to ensure we designed the best play spaces possible,” he said.

Blacktown City Council - Media Release - Oakhurst Playground Revamped

A popular Oakhurst playground has been given an upgrade, thanks to Blacktown City Council.

Ward 5 Councillor Brad Bunting said the new Hanna Reserve playground was designed to cater for both younger and older children.

“Playgrounds are a key part of any community, providing important spaces for children to learn and play,” Cr Bunting said.

“That is why we designed the play space to suit a range of ages: there is a junior area with a cubby house, swings and spring rockers, as well as a senior play area, including a challenging multi-play unit and carousel. 

“Council has also built a new bike path that wraps around the playground and has planted extra trees to provide more shade.”

Cr Bunting said local residents were consulted on the design of the playground.  

“I thank everyone who gave feedback and worked with Council to make the reserve the interactive, modern play space it is today,” he said.

Hanna Reserve is the latest park to benefit from Council’s playground improvement program, Cr Bunting said.

So far in 2017, Council has upgraded or built new playgrounds at: Bidwill Park in Bidwill; Greendale Terrace Reserve, Quakers Hill; Valencia Park, Toongabbie; Davison Reserve, Parklea; Twin Willows Reserve, Kings Langley; Endeavour Park, Kings Langley, and at Piddington Street, The Ponds.

Blacktown City Council - Media Release - Community To Celebrate Award-winning Ponds Park

A giant tree house, in-ground trampolines and a flying fox are all part of an award-winning playground set to open in The Ponds.

Blacktown City Council invites the community to celebrate the opening of the new playground and park, on Saturday, 12 August. 

There will be a barbecue sausage sizzle and plenty of fun for kids including a jumping castle and face painting. 

“The new park recently won the Playspace Award at the NSW/ACT Parks and Leisure Australia awards, and it’s easy to see why,” Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Stephen Bali said.

“It is a tremendous landmark that will be here for years to come.

“Contemporary, eco-friendly and unique; children of all abilities will be able to take part in imaginary play.

“And with the on-site facilities including picnic areas, families can now stay and play for longer.

“I am looking forward to the opening next week and hope to see lots of people there.”

Local residents, including children and parents, were consulted in the design of the play space.

Their suggestions, which included in-ground trampolines, a flying fox and a large slide, were incorporated into the design.

“By carrying out this engagement, the residents have a real sense of ownership over their park and get to have the experiences they want,” Mayor Bali said.

“The final design provides spaces for our existing and incoming residents to get to know each other, and we look forward to seeing our community enjoy this award winning new park.”

Blacktown mother of three, Julie Redhi, said she loved how the playground catered for children of all ages.

“This playground has a lot of diversity: there’s the toddler area and play equipment for older kids, which is a bonus when you’re on a family day out,” Mrs Redhi said.

“I’ve been to a lot of playgrounds in the area and this is one of the best. I’ll definitely be coming back here.” 

Mayor Bali said Council would call on the community to help name the new park, which is located in the award-winning suburb of The Ponds, close to the new Cudgegong metro station, schools and community facilities. 

The playground is the latest addition to the booming suburb, with Council currently developing a 74 lot subdivision close to the park.

The first 11 lots will be auctioned on 12 August by Abode Agents, Kellyville.

“Council is proud to offer the newly developed land in The Ponds to the market,” said Mayor Bali.

“We are proud to contribute to the housing supply by releasing ready to build developed land.”
