Sydney Alliance is a community based voluntary organisation, looking at the simple fairness of a single persons right -Which in itself is a human right. Here they are looking at simple affordable housing. As a Home Owner of the lower end priced houses of the market, I do understand that that it can be hard to save and buy a property but by the time you are ready to buy that property, the prices might have hiked up a bit.
When a real estate sells a property, they say that you will get well above the market rate. This market rate is not determined by the buyer, it is recommended by the agent. So new house buyers have to be smart. I actually have a website for new house buyers on helping them purchase new properties Clicck her for purchased property hints
Anyway, check out what Sydney Alliance is doing:
It’s been a big week for affordable housing…
- Thanks to your campaigning over the last two years - yesterday the
Greater Sydney Commission (GSC) has released plans that included a 5-10%
inclusion of affordable housing in new developments,
subject to viability.
It’s a good step and a great mini-win. But the % is way too low. 15% is a minimum of what is needed and the
'viability process' looks riddled with exploitable loopholes.
- Organisations wrote that in an
open letter to the Premier and launched it at Parliament House this morning.
- The letter was
covered by the Sydney Morning Herald
…And it’s only Tuesday.
Over the next 120 days the draft plans are on exhibition. The
planners need to hear you loud and clear, that 5-10% is simply not
enough.
So how can you take part?
1. Attend the Citywide Leader’ meeting of the Sydney Alliance on Mon evening Dec 5th,
where you will join Alliance leaders briefing, strategizing and
preparing for the 2017 campaigns (and celebrating a big 2016 too!).
Register
2. Use the Greater Sydney Commission’s own
consultations to let them know personally that their plans aren’t
good enough. They are happening across Sydney from this Saturday. Let us
know if you are going to one.
3. Start preparing your local organisation to ‘sign on’ to join hundreds of others on the Sydney Alliance ‘mass’ submission.
It is through organising our common voice across individuals and all
of our organisations that we are going to tell the Premier and the
planners that this plan for our future isn’t good enough.
Looking forward to seeing you on the
5th
David.
P.S - not sure what "inclusionary rezoning" is? or sceptical 15% can work in Sydney? Check out this short
video by Alliance member Prof Peter Phibbs about his visit to New York, where the city requires 25-30% affordable housing!

Property prices have been steadily growing in the past year within Mount Druitt and surrounding suburbs. A lot of current home owners may not take interest but they would be aware that there are plenty of sales in these suburbs and also you can tell by the amount of Real Estate Agents requiring properties for sale.
There is a need for home buyers, with medium to low incomes purchase properties which are in the lower end of the market, has great access to schools, shops, public transport and roads. Mount Druitt and surrounding suburbs has all these ticks.
For this is the main reason that I started this blogspot, 'Whyilovemountdruitt'. I had seen Channel News in December 2013, Mount Druitt & Whalan were announced as 'Property Hot Spots'. My immediate thoughts were that for this to happen, you also need to ensure that all community infrastructure was in place and improved. That Stake holders do not neglect improvements that need to be done changing the image of the area that is usually portrayed by the wider press (not the local press).
I also have a 'Bee in my bonnet' as to why a large private sector shopping center management would knock back a Free Shuttle Bus looping around the business hub of Mount Druitt, over 3 thousand signatures obtained by Mount Druitt Commuters Improvement Group Inc and acceptance by the local business! This is and was a great improvement idea that would have placed a lot of community pride within the area.
So here are the increases for suburbs in Mount Druitt suburbs houses since the last year, only suburbs that had 40 or more property sold are in these results provided by Sydney Domain
