Our City’s favourite and craziest event is back - the Family Fish In!

Held over the weekends of 2 & 3 and 9 & 10 August 2019, 600 Trout will be game for all of those fishing enthusiasts wanting to try their luck at the perfect catch. All you need to bring is your own fishing rod, fishing line and bait.

Blacktown City Council - Woodcroft Lakes Carp Recreational Fishing Competition Provides Local Records

I was proud to be invited as  a 'Media/Social Media' representative, from Blacktown City Council Media to the Woodcroft Lakes, carp recreational fishing competition. I therefor 'Thank' Blacktown City Council for this.

After speaking to Blacktown City Council - event organiser. Justine, it was welcoming that she had heard of our website and how important it shares good stories to our community. There were 260 online registrations received from resident from all over  Blacktown Blacktown to the 5th event.

Event was to raise awareness of how notorious the carp fish could be to it's surrounding environment.  The carp fishing removes  dumped fish in the lake that will improve the surrounding  Woodcroft Lakes and is for enthusiastic Fishing people wanting to relax and unwind. In the past, the event has brought an average of 20 caught fish per year. Today's fishing brought records in up to a hundred.  

It was advised that if householders have got Carp fish at home and they want to dispose of them, rather than disposing into natural waterways,  they can be disposed into the general garbage bins, provided by Council. Council will take proper steps by placing the caught fish into general landfill areas., 

There was prizes for longest fish and also the shortest fish. Amazing, maybe this could make want  to enter the same competition, next year.

Blacktown City Council - Media Release - Clean Your Waterways And Catch Some Big Fish

Bring along your rod, tackle

and bait to help catch some

carp at the annual Lake

Woodcroft carp fish-out 

event.

Blacktown City Mayor Stephen Bali said the fish-out will be a

positive and enjoyable day out for everyone.

“It’s a free fishing event to help reduce the number of carp

degrading Lake Woodcroft,” Mayor Bali said.

Carp are an introduced fish which are listed as a Class 3

noxious species in NSW due to their 

negative environmental impacts.

“It’s a great initiative Council holds 

every year to help clear

our waterways,” Mayor Bali said.

“The carp removed from the lake will 


be disposed of by authorised staff members in a humane 

manner.

“There will also be displays on the day which will include 

information on stormwater and waterways, fishing advice

from Fishcare representatives and a fishing competition for

carp that are caught.”

All participants that wish to fish are required to register online

and a fishing licence or exemption is required by the 

Department of Primary Industries.

Our yearly family fish in opens this weekend and the Mount Druitt Swimming pool will be stocked with 600 trout.

Held over two weekends, the 26th Blacktown Council Family fish in is once again a sell-out, with families ready to tackle their fishing stations at Mount Druitt Swimming Centre.

“All sessions have been filled and we are looking forward to seeing lots of people having lots of fun together,” Blacktown City Mayor Stephen Bali MP said.

“I am proud to be the Mayor who kept Mount Druitt Swimming Centre open,” Mayor Bali said.

“For 26 years people have been coming to the pool to fish – it’s a really quirky idea that has kept going and going,” he said.

Spectators are also welcome and entry to the pool is free.

Mayor Bali said fisherman should not worry about the pool being fished out.

300 trout have already arrived from the mountain waters of Sandy Waterfall Creek, on the Goobragandra River just outside of Tumut, and a further 300 will be added to the waters of Mount Druitt Swimming Centre, next Wednesday.

The fish in runs from 5pm to 8.30pm on the next two Friday and Saturday nights (August 3, 4, 10 and 11).

What Not To Feed Our Ducks And Fish - 'whyilovemountdruitt' Face Book Group

 From 'whyilovemountdruitt'  Face Book Group, Ron is sharing a sign that has been placed in a park, where ponds would be. It indicates that what we would consider the 'norm', feeding bread ducks is not the 'norm' and the affects to the ducks, pond and fish.

Maybe if these signs are not up at Plumpton Wetlands, where ducks and possible fish are in the ponds, then they should be considered by Blacktown City Council.
