Nominations are closing soon for Blacktown City Council’s 

Australia Day Awards and Blacktown City Mayor Tony

Bleasdale OAM is urging residents and businesses to

nominate worthy recipients before the January 10 deadline.

“Blacktown City Council is proud to recognise those who 

contribute to our city so it’s really important that members of 

the community let us know about worthy recipients,” Mayor 

Bleasdale said.

“If you have someone you want to nominate for one of 

Council’s Australia Day Awards, or if you feel you deserve a 

nomination, we need to hear from you very soon.”

Blacktown City Council’s Australia Day Citizen of the Year, 

Young Citizen of the Year, Environmental Citizen of the Year 

and Community Event of the Year will be announced by 

Mayor Bleasdale on Australia Day.

The awards recognise Blacktown residents who have 

provided outstanding community service or have attained 

outstanding achievement in education, sport and the arts, or 

a community group that has organised a major event in 

Blacktown City.

The Citizen of the Year Award is open to all ages and the 

Young Citizen of the Year is for people 21 years and under 

as of 26 January 2020.

The Community Event of the Year is open to community 

groups that organised an event in Blacktown City during 

2019.

Nominations close Friday, 10 January 2020.

Nominations are closing soon for Blacktown City Council’s Australia Day Awards and Blacktown Mayor Stephen Bali is urging contenders to get their forms filled out.

“Blacktown Council is proud to recognise those who contribute to the city so it’s really important that members of the community let us know about worthy recipients,” Mayor Bali said.

“If you have someone you want to nominate for one of Council’s Australia Day Awards we need to hear from you soon.

“It would be a shame if an inspiring individual who has worked hard in the community misses out because someone forgot to nominate.”

Blacktown Council’s Australia Day Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year will be announced by Mayor Bali on Australia Day.

Do you know an unsung community hero, someone inspiring and worthy of recognition?

Blacktown City Council is calling for nominations from the community for the 2016 Australia Day Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year.

The Australia Day Awards have become the most sought-after, prestigious and publicly recognised awards program in the Blacktown LGA.

The awards recognise and pay tribute to local individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to community service, have attained remarkable achievement in education, sport, the arts or a community group that have organised a successful event in the community.

Contribution includes areas such as; education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sport, arts, the environment, or any other area that contributes to the advancement and wellbeing of the Blacktown community.

Citizen of the Year Award:

To be eligible, the person must be an Australian Citizen who has on a voluntary basis, contributed to the welfare and betterment of the people within the Blacktown community throughout the year and/or over a number of years.

Young Citizen of the Year Award:

To be eligible, the person must be an Australian Citizen and 18 years of age or less on 26 January 2016, who has provided outstanding community service and/or attained outstanding achievement in academics, sport or the arts during the year and/or over a number of years.

Community Event of the Year Award:

This is presented to the group that have staged the most outstanding community event during 2015.

The winners will be announced at Blacktown City Council’s 2016 Australia Day Council Luncheon on Australia Day, Tuesday, 26 January, 2016.  This event is by invitation only.

We encourage you to submit nominations of yourself, a friend, family member, community leader or colleague who you believe have gone above and beyond their call of duty to serve the Blacktown community over the last 12 months or longer.

Let’s give them the recognition they deserve!
