Concerns about crime and the need for improvements to footpaths, street verges and recreational facilities in Lalor Park were the main issues raised at Blacktown City Council’s community forum last Tuesday night.
About 70 people attended the forum and posed questions to Councillors and Council officers.
Blacktown City Mayor Stephen Bali MP said: “Meeting with our residents and taking on their hard questions is an important part of engaging with our community.
“Some residents raised concerns that Lalor Park was missing out on upgraded facilities while other suburbs were getting improved parks and reserves.
“Council officers at the forum explained the funding difficulties that confronted Council, but we encouraged residents to work with the Councillors and Council officers in identifying specific projects that would benefit the Lalor Park community.” Mayor Bali said.
Residents’ concerns about crime and domestic violence were addressed by Chief Superintendent Bob Fitzgerald from Blacktown Local Area Command who said police officers were constantly working with the community to address these issues.
“As Councillors we understand there are issues in the area but the best way to address them is through face-to-face meetings with residents.” Mayor Bali said.
“We are proud of all the work done with the Community Gardens, Men Care Too and Common Groundz Community CafĂ©, but we know there’s always more work to do.” Mayor Bali said.
Council’s next community forum is in Ward 1 on Tuesday, 7 May, 7pm at Rouse Hill Anglican College, 7 Worcester Road, Rouse Hill.
Council is also staging a pop-up community session, where people can informally meet and chat to their Councillors, in Plumpton on Saturday, 13 April from 11 am to 1 pm at Plumpton Marketplace cnr Jersey Road and Hyatts Road (location between Gloria Jeans and EB Games).
