Blacktown City Council is continuing its tradition of live streaming major sports events and is screening the Winter Olympics outside Westpoint from games start to finish.
Screening in the Civic Plaza starts at 8.30pm on Friday 9 February and the opening ceremony is at 10pm.
“We will then keep screening the Games until they end on 25 February,” Mayor of Blacktown City Stephen Bali MP said.
“I encourage everyone to show their support of Australia’s athletes by watching them live on TV.
“Australia has about 50 sports men and women competing in the 2018 Winter Olympics,” Mayor Bali said.
“Among this talented group is Blacktown City’s own Harley Windsor, from Rooty Hill, who is making history as Australia’s first indigenous Winter Olympian.
“Harley is already an accomplished figure skater and I look forward to seeing him take to the ice as thousands of proud Blacktown locals cheer him on.
“This is not the first time Council has live streamed a sporting event: in 2016 hundreds of locals watched the Rio Olympics live from the Civic Plaza, and Aussie Rules fans also saw the 2017 AFL grand final on the big screen.
“Blacktown locals love their sport, which is why we are continuing our successful tradition of live streaming.”
The Winter Olympics telecast in the Civic Plaza will be on Channel 7 from about 10am to 5.30pm, and 7pm or 8pm to 2am, every day. Times vary depending on the scheduling of events.
Council will also have the screens up for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games from 4-15 April.
