The Blacktown City Council Animal Holding Facility has launched its annual Christmas Appeal.

AHF Education Officer, Jacqueline Benito, said the focus of the appeal this year was treats and toys for all animals: primarily dogs and cats.

“More animals are left with us over the Christmas period than at any other time of the year,” Ms Benito said.

“The treats will help to enrich their days while they are at the facility, and will also help out new families that are adopting our animals.

“We have volunteers and rescue groups who help us care for animals and find them new homes, so having extra pet toys and accessories makes their job easier too.”

The AHF is also seeking donations of collars for cats and dogs of all sizes, leashes and bowls, small cat carry cages, and kitty litter.
Donations of pet food, blankets and bedding are not needed.
Chair of Blacktown City Companion Animal Committee, Councillor Chris Quilkey, encouraged people to give generously this Christmas.

“Blacktown is a pet loving city with one of the highest rates of dog ownership in the state,” Cr Quilkey said.

“Unfortunately, not every animal is lucky enough to enjoy Christmas with their humans this year.

“They will instead be looked after by caring workers and volunteers at the AHF.

“To make their stay more pleasant, I call on all those pet lovers in our community to dig deep and donate.

“Even one small gift of a pet toy can make a difference to the life of a cat or dog in our facility.”

Donations can be left at the Animal Holding Facility, 415 Flushcombe Road, Prospect or Blacktown City Council’s Civic Centre, 62 Flushcombe Road, Blacktown during business hours.
Please note: The AHF reserves the right to deem a donation unsuitable and may decline the donation or donate the item to another animal rescue organisation.
