Blacktown City Council has awarded tertiary scholarships worth $1,500 to 12 local residents for their outstanding academic performance during 2016.

“There is no doubting the value of this Council’s program to assist young Blacktown people to pursue a tertiary education - the quality of our recipients is very high,” Blacktown City Mayor Stephen Bali MP said.

“The diversity of courses being undertaken should serve the Blacktown community extremely well.

“When our scholarship holders finish their studies they will use this knowledge in their working lives in our City.”

To be eligible for the scholarships, students must reside in Blacktown City and have completed at least one year of study at a recognised tertiary institution.

One of the recipients, Susan Oliver from Lalor Park, is enrolled at the Charles Stuart University, studying for a Bachelor of Biomedical Science.  She is the recipient of the Anne Aquilina Scholarship.

Named after the wife of the first Mayor of Blacktown City Council, John Aquilina, the scholarship reflects her academic background and specifically assists students of physiotherapy, sports medicine or health sciences at tertiary level.

The other 11 Scholarship recipients are presented to:

• Ada Ching from Woodcroft who is studying Civil

  Engineering at the University of New South Wales.

• Danielle Credaro from Blacktown who is studying Bachelor

  of Design (Hons)/Bachelor of Education (Secondary) at the 

  University of New South Wales.

• Mary-Anne Feghali from Mount Druitt who is studying 

  Advanced Science/Doctor of Dental Medicine at the    

  University of Sydney.

• Syhra Fieck from Riverstone who is studying Bachelor of 

  Engineering at the Western Sydney University.

• James Irvine from Blacktown who is studying Bachelor of

  Biomedical Physics (Honours) at the University of 

  Technology Sydney.

• Foday Sesay from Blacktown who is studying Bachelor of 

  Laws/Global Studies at the Australian Catholic University.

• Harjaap Singh from Glenwood who is studying Bachelor of 

  Aviation – Flying Stream at the University of New South 

  Wales.

• Mary Tanyous from Plumpton who is studying Advanced 

  Medical Science at the Western Sydney University.

• Isabelle Zonaga from Stanhope Gardens who is studying 

  Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Data Science at the 

  Western Sydney University.

• Divya Shah from Bungarribee who is studying Bachelor of 

  Advanced Science (Honours) at the University of New 

  South Wales.

• Tomas Dobell from Doonside who is studying Bachelor of 

   Information Technology at Blacktown Western Sydney           

   Institute TAFE.

Blacktown City Council has awarded tertiary scholarships worth $1,500 to 12 local residents for outstanding academic performance during 2016.

“There can be no doubt that Council’s scheme to assist people in the pursuit of tertiary education is well founded as evidenced by the quality of our recipients,” the Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Stephen Bali said.

“The diversity of courses being undertaken should serve the Blacktown Community extremely well.

“When our scholarship holders finish their studies they will use this knowledge in their working lives in our City.”

To be eligible for the scholarships, students must reside in Blacktown City and have completed at least one year of study at a recognised tertiary institution.

One of the recipients, Ms Cayleigh Street of Prospect, is enrolled at the Australian Catholic University, is undertaking a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy and is the 2017 recipient of the Anne Aquilina Scholarship.

Rose Mallillin from Schofields (studying Bachelor of Arts/Education at the Australian Catholic University).

Amy Borg from Blacktown (studying Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts-Media at Macquarie University).

Imogen King from Blacktown (studying Bachelor of Arts, Majoring in Art History at the University of Sydney).

Adriana Assey from Oakhurst (studying Bachelor of Engineering Advanced Honours (majoring in Civil) at University of Western Sydney University).

Abigail Brown from Rooty Hill (studying Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Notre Dame Australia).

Shahana Moon from Rooty Hill (studying Bachelor of Engineering (materials Science and Engineering/ Biomedical Engineering) at the University of New South Wales).

Paul King from Rooty Hill (studying Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry at the University of Sydney).
