Blacktown City Council - Media Release - Rouse Hill Residents Welcome Council Engagement

Upgrades to local roads and long term planning for the North West Growth Area were the main issues raised at Blacktown City Council’s community forum in Rouse Hill on Tuesday night.

Blacktown City Mayor Stephen Bali MP said: “This was a chance for people to have a say about what is important to them in newly developing suburbs.

“Council is aware of the challenges people face when they live in an area which is going through a lot of changes,” Mayor Bali said.

Residents were briefed on the recent upgrades to local roads and infrastructure in the area, followed by a briefing on the plans for the Australian Catholic University’s campus in the Blacktown CBD.

Council used the forum to inform residents about progress on the Riverstone Masterplan as well as upgrades to Hambledon Road and Railway Terrace.

Residents were also keen to take the opportunity to raise issues of concern to them and their community.

“One resident sought Council’s support to hold a public event while another asked Council to provide further information on infrastructure around Grantham Estate,” Mayor Bali said.

“Meeting with our residents and taking on board their questions is an important part of engaging with our community.”

Mayor Bali said residents were satisfied that Council continued to engage with residents and face the hard questions, especially in the area of development.

“Council understands that planning processes can cause frustrations for some residents but it is important that we continue to engage and consult with residents to achieve the best outcome for the whole community.

“The forum gave residents in Rouse Hill the opportunity for face-to-face engagement with Councillors and Council staff on matters that really affect their lives.” Mayor Bali said.

Council’s next community forum is in Ward 3 on Tuesday, 2 July, 7pm at Tyndale Christian School 58 Douglas Road, Blacktown.

Blacktown’s new university campus and upgrades to local

roads and traffic will be among the leading topics for

discussion at the Blacktown City Council community forum in 

Rouse Hill next week.

Residents from across Ward 1 will also get a chance to hear

from their Ward Councillors and raise any issues affecting 

their neighbourhood at the forum on Tuesday, 11 June at the 

Rouse Hill Anglican College, 7 Worcester Road, Rouse Hill.

Blacktown City Mayor Stephen Bali MP said: “Our program 

of community forums is a good opportunity for residents to 

meet Council staff and Councillors.

“We invite people from Rouse Hill and surrounding suburbs 

to attend the forum and tell us what really matters to them.”

Information will also be available on Council’s programs, 

services, venues, festivals and events.

Mayor Bali said: “The forums have proved to be effective for 

residents to see what Council does and at the same time 

people get to engage face-to-face with Councillors and 

Council staff.”

Council hosts Ward forums and pop-up sessions throughout 

the City giving residents a chance to engage directly with 

Council.

“I am pleased to see more residents from across Blacktown 

City are attending the forums and pop-up sessions, and I 

encourage residents in Ward 1 to join us next week,” Mayor 

Bali said.

Blacktown City Council - Media Release - Rouse Hill’s $7 Million Bridge Begins To Take Shape

The eagerly awaited Rouse Road Bridge in Rouse Hill is nearing the final stages of construction.

Blacktown City Mayor Stephen Bali MP said the construction of the $7 million bridge will solve a real problem in the area.

“It will serve the needs of the expanding community in this new growth centre precinct,” Mayor Bali said.

“Blacktown City Council has had the bridge planned for some time, but needed to wait for available funding.

“The federal grant, made under the Bridges Renewal Program, enabled the work to be fast-tracked.”

Blacktown City Council matched the $3.5 million funding provided by the Federal Government and is overseeing the project.

Senator for Western Sydney and Minister for Defence, Marise Payne said the new bridge would replace the existing flood-prone causeway at Rouse Road.

“This project will bring welcome relief to the local community, particularly the Rouse Hill Anglican College, which has long endured inconvenience and safety issues around the causeway during heavy rain,” Senator Payne said.

Member for Greenway Michelle Rowland said the Rouse Road Bridge was a piece of long-awaited infrastructure.

“The lack of a bridge has been a frustration for local residents using Rouse Road during bad weather.

“It’s great to see such a vital piece of infrastructure finally being built for the community.”

The Rouse Road Bridge is scheduled to open by the end of 2018.
