Blacktown City Council - Media Release - New Pooch Parks And Pupnic

Blacktown City has one of the highest dog ownership rates in

the state and to support responsible dog ownership Council

has just opened 2 new dog parks in Hebersham and

Quakers Hill and is hosting a dog picnic to celebrate.

The off-leash, fenced enclosures are located at Paterson

Reserve, Quakers Hill and in Heber Park, Hebersham.

Blacktown City Councillors Chris Quilkey and Moninder

Singh recently joined the Department of Planning’s director

of Open Space, Fiona Morrison and children and teachers

from Mary Immaculate primary school in opening the

Paterson Reserve dog park.

“These two dog parks will bring to 16 the number of off-leash

areas in Blacktown City,” Councillor Quilkey said.

“Dog parks bring many benefits to the community.

“They encourage dog owners to exercise their pets and

themselves, meet fellow dog owners and be part of the

community. At the same time, the facilities prevent dogs

interfering with other activities and events in the parks.”

The NSW Department of Planning, Infrastructure and

Environment contributed $190,000 to the cost of the

construction of the 2 dog parks which include watering

points, shaded seating, fencing and a special gateway

system to make dog handling easier.

Council is inviting pooches and their owners to a dog picnic

at the new off-leash park at Paterson Reserve, Quakers Hill

on Sunday 15 September.

The pupnic will be held from 9am to 10.30am and there will

be free giveaways, pupcakes and information on animal

adoption and responsible pet ownership.

Date:   Sunday, 15 September
Time: 9am to 10.30am
Location:        Off-leash dog park, Paterson Reserve, Quakers Hill

Pet lovers should mark their calendar for the annual

Blacktown Pet Festival on Sunday 13 October at the

Blacktown Showground.

The pet-friendly day promises to be full of fun with a range of

entertainment and activities to help owners look after their

companions and raise community awareness about
responsible pet ownership.

Date:            Sunday, 13 October, 2018

Time: 10am to 2pm

Location:         Blacktown Showground Precinct, Richmond

Grants of between $2,500 and $20,000 will be awarded to successful not-for-profit and local government organisations.
A local committee made up of representatives from local sporting clubs and cultural groups will consider all proposals and make recommendations to the Department of Infrastructure Transport, Cities and Regional Development.
The Stronger Communities Programme requires matched contributions in cash or in kind on at least a dollar for dollar basis.
Click here to download the Expression of Interest form and return to my office by Tuesday, 10 September 2019.

COMMUNITIES ENVIRONMENT PROGRAM  - EOI OPEN
The Communities Environment Program (CEP) will support a wide range of small-scale, on-ground projects that aim to conserve, protect and manage our environment.
The program seeks to support community groups—including those that may not be able to compete in larger and more competitive grant programs—to address local environmental priorities. The program also seeks to encourage the community to connect with their local natural environment and to build and strengthen local communities.
Projects are to align with the objectives, expected outcomes and eligibility requirements of the program which can be found here.

Grants can range from $2,500 to $20,000 per project and the majority of funding must be directed to on-ground activities within Chifley. Cash and/or in-kind co-contributions are encouraged but nor necessary.
The following activities are provided as a guide to the types of projects that may be suitable for a grant under the program:
  • monitoring local flora, fauna, water quality or marine debris
  • supporting the recovery of threatened species and/or threatened ecological communities
  • seed collection, propagation and planting of trees and understorey to control erosion and/or rehabilitate degraded natural habitats, riverbanks, wetlands and/or coasts
  • improving or increasing the extent of suitable habitat, vegetation linkages and available food sources for native animals, including in urban areas
  • reducing the impact of invasive weeds, pest animals, diseases and erosion on threatened species and natural habitats
  • installing infrastructure (such as boardwalks) or fencing to manage access to sensitive natural habitats
  • reducing the impact of waste and litter on natural habitats (e.g. litter clean-up events, marine debris collection or litter management infrastructure)
  • workshops to increase community skills in monitoring, conserving, and/or protecting threatened species, ecological communities or other important environmental assets.
To apply, please complete an EOI form and return to my office by Tuesday, 10 September 2019.
