Blacktown City Council is celebrating the International Day
of People with a Disability with a series of free activities
across the city from 3 – 9 December.
International Day of People With a Disability (IDPWD) is an
annual United Nations-sanctioned event that aims to promote
an understanding of people with disability and encourage
support for their dignity, rights and wellbeing.
Blacktown City Mayor Stephen Bali MP said Blacktown’s
IDPWD celebrations were an opportunity for the city to foster
an inclusive and welcoming community for all.
“With a population of more than 360,000 people speaking
182 different languages, Blacktown is one of the biggest and
most diverse cities in Australia,” Mayor Bali said.
“I am proud to be Mayor of a city that embraces, supports
and celebrates people of all cultures, backgrounds and
abilities.”
Mayor Bali said celebrations kick off on Monday 3 December
with the talent showcase at Max Webber Library before a
free picnic is held in the park at Blacktown Showground on
Wednesday 5 December.
“I highly recommend everyone to come to the talent
showcase as we celebrate empowering people with
disabilities,” Mayor Bali said.
“The free picnic is also not to be missed with lots of activities
planned for the day including a silent disco and art in the
park.”
Festivities come to a close on Sunday 9 December with the
SOAR and ROAR Festival at the Sydney Motorsport Park.
The Soar & Roar Festival will provide people with an
intellectual disability the opportunity to experience the thrill of
a Dream Ride in a classic, exotic or luxury car.
